Voided urine, 82-year old female, squamous cell carcinoma


200x Papanicolaou staining, many isolated squamous cells, most of them fiberlike

Cytology smears revealed many isolated squamous cells, many of them fiberlike. Presence of many “ghost“ cells, anucleated. Many cells are highly queratinized; cytologic features of well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix invading the pelvis and causing bilateral ureteral obstruction.
