The brushings show irregular tight clusters, pseudoglandular arrangements, overlapping nuclei, and few isolated atypical cells. The chromatin is moderately hyperchromatic, with few large nucleoli. No cells have brush borders or cilia. These findings suggest a well differentiated adenocarcinoma, either primary or metastatic. The extensive clinical work up revealed a well differentiated adenocarcinoma of the endometrium (endometrioid type).
Kidney, colon and rectum, breast sarcoma and melanoma account for 2/3 of the cases of endobronchial metastases. Endometrial carcinoma is a quite rare origin, with very few reported cases.
