We begin with a photo in sunny New Haven—on Class Day, to be specific. This is right after we've returned from Old Campus and are about to go to Master K's, then East Buffet with Luke and Senwung's families, then to the Whiffenpoofs/Whim 'n Rhythm concert. An exhausting day!

And, one day later, Commencement. Because of the rain we had to take this photo in my room—also, my mortarboard was ruined by the rain, and the robe was about 80 pounds heavier because it was soaked, but that's the diploma there in my hand, and that's all that matters, right?

Jason poses in the entrance foyer of Yale's Sterling Memorial Library.

This photo was taken during Jason's visit to Yale in mid-February; we stopped off at the Thai Pan-Asian buffet on Chapel Street.

At some random networking event for "East Asian Professionals" with my brother and his friends: Trinh, Jason, Jennifer, Me, some random girl.

Grossest photo ever! That's Jason with his friend Karen on the right, and then his friend Sunny with his MAIL-ORDER UKRAINIAN BRIDE on the left!! AAAH!!

That's my maternal grandma, eating a strawberry—ain't she cute?

Here are some industrious migrant farm workers harvesting strawberries.

In yet another one of her hare-brained schemes, my mom decided to take my family for a vacation in Chincoteague, VA, home of a bunch of wild ponies. Here's the house that we stayed in (dad, grandmother, mom, Jason).

Now to the other side of the Pacific and the other grandmother—on my dad's side (at right). She's cute too (in a wizened sort of way). The folks to my left are my mom's only brother, his wife, and their daughter.

The preparations were elaborate (if hasty) for my mom's surprise birthday party this year (held on 3.14.03). Here we see a bunch of guests anxiously awaiting the birthday girl/woman (Clockwise from left: Some random nun, Jason, Mr. Hester, Norman, Mrs. Hester, Wilma Prince, Ellen.

Here is my mom blowing out the candles on her Winnie-the-Pooh birthday cake.

From Dee's visit on 8.9.03—she's in the middle, and her in-laws the Shiues are on the left. This is our living room.

Zoom in on the bros.

Trip to Cape May, NJ and Lancaster County (Amish Country), PA (7.30.03-7.31.03)

It was rainy in Cape May by the time we left, but the houses are still beautiful.

My mom fell in love with this house. Seriously. She wanted to have its baby.

I thought this train station was kind of quaint. It's also a visitors' information center... doh!

And now here we are in idyllic Amish Country, PA. My mom was asking this little boy about the flowers—I think he was scared.

Look at this bucolic scene!

They were selling these little black lab puppies... I can't imagine a more peaceful sight than this.

And here's the little sister bouncing around on the trampoline.

Saw this on the way out of Lancaster and had to stop. Pretty arresting, no?

Trip to NYC (7.19.03)

Here is a photo of Jason happily eating chicken at a rest stop in New Jersey. Actually, he's laughing because I was trying to catch my mom in the act of being an Ultimate Cheatmael, but I wasn't fast enough, and she managed to make it into the car. Rats!

The family + David Chiu on the steps of the New York City Public Library. This was right before we saw the musical Rent, which, as predicted, my dad hated. Actually I didn't really like it either... is that so wrong?

Just thought this was a nice shot of Mott Street in Chinatown. It really looks like a street in Taipei.
