President’s Letter

As I write this, the fall colors are breathtaking. It is time to contemplate the year at the JCCS to date.

The programs offered have been outstanding both in variety and in scope. We have had serious discussions and many programs that were for entertainment. There were various musical presentations.  Some were exceptionally talented pianists, some were ensembles, still others were vocalists. We also presented children's shows, cabaret nights, cinema and supper, bridge nights, Yiddish classes, French classes and other enjoyable programs. We are fortunate to have such a prolific Program committee.

This year was our tenth anniversary. Our Gala was held on October 23rd. There were hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, dinner, dancing, flowers, and music complete with vocalist, at the River Oaks Country Club. It was an outstanding evening for all. The Gala Committee did a fine job indeed.

Our Executive Administrator is now Sandra Bondy. Sandra is an enthusiastic person with some great ideas for our future. Amy Smith will also be supporting Sandra in an administrative capacity. Both will be in the office on Mondays and Fridays.

We have a full plate and would welcome you to be an active part of the JCCS. Call Sandra at (860) 355-8050. DO IT NOW! You'll be glad that you've done so. The rewards are great.

Sunshine

Ted and Patsy Tulchin have donated to our Sunshine fund in honor of Harris Shapiro.

Max & Susi Leiter donated to our Sunshine fund wishing Marvin & Yanka Cantor a healthy year.

Please remember that we all appreciate the Sunshine that comes from remembering a friend or loved one. If you want to honor someone or know of an upcoming birthday, anniversary or celebration or want to announce the birth of a new family member, contact the JCCS office with the information for the next newsletter. A contribution will be acknowledged with a card to the honoree as well as noted here.

Mah Jong

We will continue to host Mah Jong at 4 p.m. on Mondays at the JCCS. New players are always welcome. Come learn, come play. Have fun and meet new friends.

The Mah Jong players and the JCCS extend a special thank you to Jane Rothschild for her patience and teaching skills. She taught five students from scratch and refreshed a few of us.

Scrabble

It has been suggested that a “Scrabble”™ session would be a nice way to spend a couple of hours at the Center. If anyone is interested in participating in a game, or a series of sessions, please contact us by phone or email.
