Marino - The Unexpected Alliance
Growing up in southern california, I have been exposed to many different sounds and rhythms that have come from legendary artists. The most influential in my book is Santana. After reviewing your site and
santana's, and the other wonderful santana pages, I came across a musician who has been starting to getairplay this side of the world. His name is Marino. I picked up "The Unexpected Alliance" from his
website, by chance, and discovered a pandora's box of different sounds and shapes that came alive as the album played on. From the opening track, "East Coast", to "Vanilla Light", the guitar playing marino showed moved me to the brink of tears. And I dont cry!(not much anyways... apart from what my therapist says) To go track by track, "East Coast" has the power of a blues style ballad, reminding me of the likes of Joe Cocker, and Eric Clapton. "Baby When I Want You" has the soulful feeling of a Marvin Gaye record, or an Al Green song that makes 2 lovers unite. "Everything's Coming Our Way(Its all about love), a calaboration of 2 songs from Santana and Marino has the most amazing bob marley feel. I can almost Picure myself on the beach, sipping a cold drink, smoking a cheeba, that feels more realistic as the Jimi Hendrix style solo from Marino comes to play. "Pray".... What can I say about pray that hasnt
already been said? This song has become my favorite, and has made me pray more and more, everyday...... The song features the amazing Santana vocalist Alex Ligertwood, and this song will become an altime classic, up there with "Stormy Monday". Marino and Alex blend together beautifuly. I highley recomend all Santana Fans to check this out!! "Angelique"..... Masterpiece instrumental, featuring
members of Sting's band, and with that said, how can you go wrong!?
"Who said".... Getting airplay in So Cali where I live, and we love it!! Featuring Bill Champlin from "Sons of Champlin" and "Chicago" on lead vocals. An amazing track, that you'll want to play more and more with each spin. Who said what? "Meano Marino"... Jazz legend Les Mccann and Marino really funk it up. Great groove. Great soloing. "Day of Redemption".... DEEP DEEP DEEP. truely spiritual.
"At a Racing Standstill"... WOW. Alex Ligertwood is back again, and is back with a furry! I read recentlyCarlos Santana said "Alex has the voice of an angel".. Well, that couldnt be more than the truth! A contemporary track, where both vocals and guitar match one another, note for note, magically.
"Vanilla Light".... A truelly rock ROCK song. Brings me back to the days of being a teenager, listening to Led Zep and Jimmy Page. Marino's playing is matched to the greats, Jimi, Eric, Carlos.. I recommend that EVERYONE should check this album out and can listen to all the tracks on the website, www.marinosoundwaves.com , and every music lover
should have a copy of this truelly special album.
