So we took him to his primary care physician, who promptly directed us to have his hearing checked and talk to a speech therapist. He was diagnosed with Verbal Apraxia. That was the very moment my world caught on fire. I didn't know what Verbal Apraxia was, much less care. There was something actually wrong with MY angel!
Jake developed frustration with the fact that he couldn't communicate even his most basic of needs to us. Of course, we became worried about what was happening with our little boy. I became worried about WHY this was happening to our little boy. I spent many nights muttering into my pillow about that. Are you? If so, feel free to mutter into my e-mail. Sometimes, just muttering to a stranger might help.
I never did figure out the "why", but I have found a great deal of solace in the fact that I have been active in his development. See?? I told you that you would hear that again.
