| John W. Tindall, the son of Mary and James H. Tindall, was born in South Carolina
about 1810. He married Eliza E. (her
last name has not been recovered).
Eliza was born in South Carolina about
1815. There is an Equity court
record in Williamsburg County, South
Carolina, dated April 16, 1831, which
includes the names of Francis W. Perritt,
John W. Tindal and Samuel W. Blakeley.
According
to the 1840 Census of Sumter District,
South Carolina, John W. Tindall was
between 30 and 40 years old. Also
in the household was a female between 20
and 30 years old, one male and one female
under five years old, and two females
between five and ten years old.
John had 13 slaves. A nearby
neighbor was Mary Tindall who was between
50 and 60 years of age. Also in the
house with Mary were two girls. One
was between ten and fifteen years old and
the other was between fifteen and twenty
years old. Mary had 23 slaves.
On
October 24, 1843, for $1,700.00, John
sold 650 acres of land situated on Sammy
Swamp, Waters of Black River to Joseph S.
McFaddin (Sumter Court House, Book LL,
Page 374). The witnesses were M.
D. Brunson and E. F.
Strong. Eliza E. Tindall signed her
dower on October 24, 1843.
According
to the 1850 Census of Horry District, a J.
W. Tindall, age 38, was living with Mary,
age 66 (John's mother?). Mary had
real estate valued at $200.00. All
were born in South Carolina.
