John W. Tindall
Circa 1810 - After 1850

John W. Tindall, the son of Mary and James H. Tindall, was born in South Carolina about 1810.  He married Eliza E. (her last name has not been recovered).  Eliza was born in South Carolina about 1815.

There is an Equity court record in Williamsburg County, South Carolina, dated April 16, 1831, which includes the names of Francis W. Perritt, John W. Tindal and Samuel W. Blakeley.

According to the 1840 Census of Sumter District, South Carolina, John W. Tindall was between 30 and 40 years old.  Also in the household was a female between 20 and 30 years old, one male and one female under five years old, and two females between five and ten years old.  John had 13 slaves.  A nearby neighbor was Mary Tindall who was between 50 and 60 years of age.  Also in the house with Mary were two girls.  One was between ten and fifteen years old and the other was between fifteen and twenty years old.  Mary had 23 slaves.

On October 24, 1843, for $1,700.00, John sold 650 acres of land situated on Sammy Swamp, Waters of Black River to Joseph S. McFaddin (Sumter Court House, Book LL, Page 374).  The witnesses were M.  D.  Brunson and E.  F.  Strong.  Eliza E. Tindall signed her dower on October 24, 1843.

According to the 1850 Census of Horry District, a J. W. Tindall, age 38, was living with Mary, age 66 (John's mother?).  Mary had real estate valued at $200.00.  All were born in South Carolina.
