| John J. Tindal, the son of Martha and John Tindal, was born in South Carolina
about 1826. John married (first) Julia M.
_____________. Julia was born about
1828. On August 22, 1848, John
sold 225 acres for $675.00 to Henry F.
Tindall of Clarendon County. This
land was part of the estate of John's
father. The land was bounded on the
north by C. R. Harvin, on the west by
Bartlett(?), on the east by H. F. Tindal
and Stephan Andrews. The witnesses
were James S. Tindal and McCauley J.
White (Sumter Court House, Register of
Mesne Conveyances, Book N, Page 313).
Julia
died on or about September 30, 1848.
According to the Sumter Banner, dated
October 4, 1848, Julia M. Tindal, wife of
John J. Tindal, was involved in a serious
accident. While riding in a buggy,
accompanied by her husband, mother, and
younger brother, the horse took fright
and she ran the risk of jumping out and
died after several days of intense
anguish at the age of her 21st year.
John
married (second) Caroline J. McCauley,
the daughter of James McCauley.
Caroline was born in South Carolina about
1832. According to the 1850 Census
of Sumter District, South Carolina, J. J.
Tindall was a 24 year old planter with
real estate valued at $1,600.00.
Also in the household was Caroline, an 18
year old female.
According
to the 1860 Census of Clarendon County,
South Carolina, John J. Tindall was a 33
year old farmer whose real estate was
valued at $1,500.00 and whose personal
property was valued at $7,500.00.
Others in the household were Caroline J.
(age 28) and Henry W. Brunson (age 4
months). All were born in South
Carolina.
John
and Caroline died sometime between 1860
and March 2 1868. On March 2, 1868,
John Thigpen, Trustee for Caroline J.
Tindall, sold 100 acres to John T. Wells
for $100.00 (Sumter County Court House,
Register of Mesne Conveyances, Book RR,
Page 384).
