MELB: Mon Mar 4 Ansett Airlines ceases to be. A sad day for Australian aviation. Melbourne, Victoria.  In 1931 Reginald Myles Ansett began a passenger car service between Hamilton and Ballarat. Ansett Roadways, eventually connected Hamilton, Maryborough, Ballarat and Melbourne.
Reg & Studebaker
Out of the income from this, Reg Ansett  was able to purchase a DH Gipsy Moth, initially as a hobby, in which he learned to fly.

In 1935 the Victorian Government saw the Ansett road operation as competition to the railways - Ansett now had a second Studebaker and another driver - and passed legislation which ended the road freight operation. Reg's response was to register Ansett Airways. In 1936, Reg invested a thousand pounds in a Fokker F.XI Universal, VH-UTO. Services began from the small field at Hamilton, Victoria, in early 1936, the Fokker carried 8 passengers to Essendon on February 17th.A major blow fell when, in 1936, Fokker VH-UTO was lost in a hangar fire, together with three other aircraft.

Reg was undeterred, it is said he arrived the next morning with plans for a new hanger. Ansett ceased regular operations during World War 2, except for its Hamilton-Melbourne service, and worked under contract to the USAAF, flying personnel throughout Australia in its remaining two Lockheeds.
After the War, Reg obtained 3 USAAF C-47 aircraft and converted them to DC-3 standard, operating them between Melb-Mt Gambier-Adelaide, and Melb-Wagga Wagga -Canberra.

On 16th Oct 1964, Ansett introduced the first jet airliner, the Boeing 727, to Australian service at Essendon, Victoria. By 1969, Reg Ansett saw the airline he founded achieve the status of Australia's largest domestic airline. He did not live to see domestic deregulation in 1990. By 1969, Reg Ansett saw the airline he founded achieve the status of Australia's largest domestic airline. He did not live to see domestic deregulation in 1990, the overseas operations he dreamt and the sad events of today. Reg was a battler, he fought constant government  intervention and bureaucratic bungling. No government wanted to have a privately run airline, but he persisted. The Howard (Menzies dreaming) government has finally got Reg, and Ansett Airlines is no more. Ansett Airlines was one of the great world airlines, known for excellent service and it’s more than loyal staff. Now lets sit back and watch the arrogant Qantas become “The World’s Worst Airline”. We hope Dick Branson a self made man as Sir Reg will continue the fight for freedom in the Australian Sky’s. Solly & Lindsay should be congratulated for trying to perpetrate Sir Reg’s dream, even they were not strong enough for  Canberra. Solly & Lindsay

KUALA LUMPUR: May 1, John tours KL International Airport. The new KLIA airport is unbelievable in size, over the top, the architecture is interesting to say the least, styled like a series of Bedouin tents reminiscent of Mecca during Haji.
Aerotrain is a complimentary automated people-mover shuttle system that shuttles passengers between Main Terminal Building and Satellite Building. The system runs on pneumatic rubber-typed wheels to provide comfort.
The interior features an atrium at the center of each terminal.
Sadly the airport seems to be a white elephant, very few people to be seen. Mostly MAS flights using the terminal. KLIA has a total of 106 aircraft stands and consists of 2 main buildings, the main building used for domestic and short haul international and the train connected satellite building for International flights.
Recently Qantas, ANA, Lufthansa, Aeroflot and British Airways have ceased  to use the airport. The airport is over 75km from downtown KL. They all sighted bad airport management as the reason.
The 130 mtr (425ft) high tower is the tallest air traffic control tower in the world. Shaped liked a giant Olympic Torch, it houses the air traffic controllers, radar system.& high-tech air space
computer system.  The Air Traffic Control Office and other support services are at the base of the tower.
Two full service parallel runways 2.5km apart from each are capable of handling up to 120 aircraft movements an hour. The ultimate development layout calls for four full service runways.
HOWARD PRESS BRIEF: "Ok it’s time to come clean. The truth is Hollingworth and I were on that ship, we threw the babies overboard ourselves, they were horrible little black screaming things, we were doing them a favor, put them out of their misery, I say! Then those dammed sailors tried to save them against Hollingworths orders. They will be all court martialed for not obeying their commander in chief. Hollingworth and I had an agreement as the offending priest in his old daisies is one of my brothers, the hilarious one. Hollingworth agreed he would not tell if I supported him to remain GG. It certainly got me re-elected. Australians will believe anything. The Queen is aware of the whole scam and thinks it is hilarious, she said “nothing to the scams at the palace.”
"Come on, fellow Ausies we know from the latest Morgan poll, 82.8% of Australians would have drowned the kids also. Hollingworth and I should be knighted."

KHO-NEW @mail
BALI: Tues Feb 12, 2002. 8am the KHO was swarming with workmen from IndoNet who came to install the new ISP connection to the KHO. By 9am the old MegaNet connection was uninstalled and put in the rubbish. For security reasons all paperwork pertaining to MegaNet was shredded.
New alliance with IndoNet
Special attention was paid to the domain numbers which were burnt with a Balinese funeral blow torch. After coffee and drop scones, served with lashings of French butter and import Farmland jam, the workers began installation of  the wonderful new  IndoNet ISP.

MEN: Be careful what you wear (or don't wear), when working under your vehicle,  especially in public. A central west couple  drove their car to K-Mart only to have their car break down in the parking lot. The man told his wife to carry on with the shopping while he fixed the car there in the lot. The wife returned later to see a small group of people gawking near the car. On closer inspection she saw a pair of male legs protruding from under the chassis. Although the man was in shorts, his lack of under- pants turned private parts into glaringly public ones. Unable to stand the embarrassment she dutifully stepped forward, quickly put her hand UP his shorts and tucked everything back into place. On regaining her feet she looked across the hood and found herself staring at her husband who was standing idly by. The mechanic, however, had to have three stitches in his head! ...Denny
Warung Sobat has been very busy this month hosting guests from Holland, England, Australia & Germany. The KHO “Sunday Club” is going well with many attending.
