Rotary's Tenth Annual JB Smith Memorial Golf Tournament

(Charles Town, WV)- The Rotary Club of Charles Town's tenth annual J. B. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament will be on Friday, May 22, 2009, held at  Locust Hill Golf Course in Jefferson County, West Virginia with a shotgun start at 1pm. J.B. Smith was the son of Charles Town Rotarian Ann Smith and her husband Danny Smith, owners and operators of the Anvil Restaurant located in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

"The tournament and reception are held each year on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend with the proceeds going to a charity that best exemplifies the charitable and humanitarian work J. B. Smith accomplished during his lifetime", said Leslie Smith of the Rotary Club of Charles Town. J. B. was killed in an automobile accident August 15, 1998, at the age of 23. "One of J. B.'s most recognizable traits was his unselfish willingness to help anyone in need", she said. Smith said these traits, combined with his love of golf, provide the impetus for this tournament.

Golfers may enter individually or put a team together. A reception will follow at 6pm at the Anvil Restaurant in Harpers Ferry. The cost is $100 per golfer which includes the reception and non-golfer's can participate in the reception only for $25. This year the charity benefactors are The Jefferson Memorial Park, The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic, The Eastern Panhandle Community Foundation - J.B. Smith Fund, and Jefferson High School Baseball. "Thanks to your generosity, we have raised in excess of $250,000 for charities over the past nine years", said Ann Smith, member of the Rotary Club of Charles Town and mother of JB Smith. "We want people to come out, have fun and fellowship, play some golf, and help us make a difference".

The event is sponsored by Jefferson Security Bank, Charles Town Races & Slots, The Anvil Restaurant, and Brookewood Builders. The  Prize Sponsor is BB&T. For more information, check out the website at www.jbsmithmemorial.com or email [email protected].
