J.B. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament

The Rotary Club of Charles Town announces the 10^th. Annual J. B. SMITH MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT on the Friday, May 22, 2009 before the Memorial Day weekend, with an awards reception after the tournament.

This year's tournament will be held at Locust Hill Golf Course with a shotgun start at 1:00 PM. You may enter individually, put a team together. play. The reception will begin immediately following the tournament at The Anvil Restaurant in Harpers Ferry, WV (anvilrestaurant.com).

Over the past nine tournaments over $250,000 has been given by the Rotary Club of Charles Town to Community Ministries, Shenandoah Women’s Center, Jefferson Memorial Park, Jefferson High School Baseball, Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic and Eastern WV Community Foundation.

The tournament and reception is held annually the Friday before Memorial Day weekend with the proceeds going to a charity that best exemplifies the charitable and humanitarian work J. B. Smith, son of Danny and Ann Smith, accomplished during his lifetime. J. B. was killed in an automobile accident August 15, 1998 at the age of 23. One of J. B.’s most recognizable traits was his unselfish willingness to help anyone in need. These traits combined with his love of golf provide the impetus for the tournament.

Charities include the Jefferson Memorial Park, the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation -J.B. Smith Fund, Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic, and Jefferson High School Baseball along with Jefferson Memorial Park.

Prizes will be awarded to the top overall team, low gross and no fewer than the next 10 teams. Other skill prizes will be awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin and random drawings for other prizes.

The format of the tournament is a captain’s choice scramble and the cost for an individual golfer is $100.00. The fee includes cart, green fees and reception. Golfers may put their teams together.

Sponsorship packages include the Sponsor Package for $1,000 - 8 golfers, tee off sign, t-shirt advertisement and 8 guests for the reception, Patron Package for $500.00 - 4 golfers, tee off sign, t-shirt advertisment and 4 guests for reception, Business Package for $250.00 - 2 golfers, tee off sign and 2 guests for reception, Individual Business Package for $150.00 - golfer, tee off sign and 1 guest to reception, Tee Sign Package for $100.00 with 2 reception tickets. Tournament polo shirts may be ordered in advance at $38.00 each. This year a t-shirt will be provided to each golfer with ads for sponsorships of $500.00 and above.
