The Past:

I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Little brother Christian came along when I was three. One of my earliest memories is playing with him in a little purple car on the patio.

From an early age, I realized I loved creative outlets. Dancing, singing, acting, painting and making people laugh were some of my favorite activities. I was extremely energetic -- always wanting to entertain myself and others. Mom tried to cut down on my sugar intake, but it didn't help much. I was still hyper as ever. (It wasn't until my late teens that I calmed down.)

The son of two library professionals, I developed a love for books and reading at an early age. This affection for the written word and my ever-present need for self-expression led me to churn out a constant stream of writing from junior high school onward. Keeping a journal,  maintaining personal correspondence with friends and creative writing are a few of my hobbies.

Foreign languages have also been a love of mine for as long as I can remember. French, Russian, Spanish and Japanese are just a few of the ones I particularly enjoyed. Sadly, I'm only conversant in the last two.

In college, I put my  love of writing to task as I pursued journalism. Soon, I was on the University newspaper. After 2 years learning the ropes, I found myself in the position of interim editor after the head editor left me. I hated all the responsibility, though, and soon became managing editor. This suited me much better, since I was devoting much time to the university's newly formed gay and lesbian student group. Unity GLF was a amiable group of like-minded students, all gays, lesbians and friends. As a founding member of the organization, I worked with some very talented and intelligent people. During its 3rd year, the group voted me president. I enjoyed leadership, although I enjoyed being the communications director much more.

I also served on the volunteer service committees for the university's Mortar Board and Phi Kappa Phi academic honor societies.

During my "joiner" phase of college, during my sophomore and junior year, I was also busy with a social life. I dated a wonderful guy, Joel, for a little over two years. He was a great boyfriend and my first long-term one.

I spent 3 years teaching English in Wakayama Japan after college. It was an amazing, enlightening experience. I returned to the U.S. in 1998 after traveling around Asia and Europe for a few months. The next year, I began studying library and information science in the graduate school of Louisiana State University. My best friend, Jim, was very generous to me by providing a place for me to stay while I was at school in Baton Rouge.

I got my master's degree in library and information science in May, 2001. Part of my studies included web development for library systems and information centers. That's one of the reasons I built this site.

My first job after getting my master's degree was totally unrelated to my field. I accepted a position as teaching assistant for my university's Study Abroad program. It was a fruitful summer for me. I studied Irish literature, some mythology and some theatre.
I lived and studied at the same school as Oscar Wilde. It seemed very appropriate that I should walk the same cobbled streets as one of my gay bon vivant heroes.

The Present:

Right now, I am living in the Washington, DC Metro area. I recently accepted a job doing event programming at a public library in Northern Virginia.

Return home.
When I'm acting like I'm really full of myself, people sometimes tell me, "Jeffrey, it's not all about you!" Well, that doesn't apply here. So read on....
It's all about me.
The Future:

This is a hard section to write. But I suppose I could list a few of my short-term goals.

1 > Find a love that inspires me.
2 > Develop a network of friends
3 > See Eastern Europe by age 30.
