Return To The Crafty Granny's Family Cookbook

Until we left the Bayou for the first time around 1948, we never knew there was any other kind of hot dog other than this kind Mama cooked for a special treat every now and then. And we still love it as a treat now. Do try them, and it will be a treat for you!

MAMA'S HOT DOGS

1 pound wieners, sliced in 3 (the long way)
1 medium onion (diced)
1 rib of celery (diced fine)
salt & pepper
2 tablespoons oil
1 can tomato sauce
2 1/2 cups water
garlic powder

Sauté onion in oil till yellow. Add tomato sauce and cook. Stirring often over a low fire till onions get very soft, be careful not to burn. Then add celery and seasonings. Cook about 20 minutes. Add wieners and cook another 15 minutes. Serve on sliced bread or buns. It's even good served over mashed potatoes. It's also a wonderful way to stretch a little food for a lot of people, and have fun while doing it!
