MOTHER'S SHRIMP OKRA GUMBO

1 1/2 pound okra, sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 link smoked sausage
3 or 4 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 1/2 pound shrimp, cleaned
salt & pepper

Heat oil in heavy pot, add okra & onion, smother till good and brown. Add about 2 tablespoons vineagar to prevent it from being slimy. Add tomato paste, saute a couple minutes, add water to cover good, add seasonings, & sausage. Cook about 30 minutes, then add shrimp & cook at least 20 minutes. Serve over rice.
