LELI'S WHITE BUTTERMILK CAKE

2 cup sugar
1/2 cup Crisco
2 egg whites, beaten
1 3/4 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Soda
2 3/4 cup Sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Pour soda in 3/4 cup buttermilk, & set aside. Cream sugar & Crisco, add egg whites & beat well. Add vanilla & 1 cup buttermilk. Sift flour, salt & baking powder together & add to mixture. Add buttermilk & soda mixture last & mix well. Bake in 2 9 in. greased & floured cake pans 25 to 30 min. at 350. Frost as desired. You can not taste the buttermilk, but it does make it lighter. Better cover your cake server so this cake doesn't float away.
