Unguided In Alaska
Just at dusk ptarmigan flew into camp and we grabbed our .270's and took aim.  The first one steve shot in the breast with 140 grain polymer tip and it exploded.  By aiming at the breast when the bird was head on the bullet path at 50 yards was perfect for head shots.  We got 9 birds and 7 of the nine were good enough to eat.  We ate them wrapped in bacon and fried.  They we perfect!! If I would have been there another day I would have shot some more birds for sure.  They were the best wild game bird I have ever eaten.  Three of the birds were hit so slightly that we are are going to have them mounted.  Now that is good shooting!!!!!! Or luck, depends who is pulling the trigger.
