Allies
Tiger Tanaka – Tetsuro Tamba Tiger Tanaka is the head of the Japanese Secret Service. He’s a very intelligent and adept ally of Bond, knows a great deal about him, even such miniscule things as the by-play between Moneypenny and Bond. He rides his own personal underground train, knowing it would be unwise to do so in the public and has a ninja training ground. He has Bond turned into Japanese, trained, and then married to Kissy Suzuki to give him cover while on the island, investigating the affair. He later leads his army of ninjas into the SPECTRE volcano base to battle with Blofeld’s men. Memorable lines: “In Japan, men always come first, women come second.” “We have our ways Bon-san, just like you.”
Dikko Henderson – Charles Gray Dikko Henderson is the contact for James Bond when he arrives in Japan. He has lived in the country for many years and his living quarters emphasize that, with his large variety of decoration. He is in the middle of giving pivotal information to Bond when he is stealthily knifed and killed. Memorable lines: “Oh, that’s stirred not shaken, that was right, wasn’t it?”
Villians
Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Number 1) – Donald Pleasance James Bond finally meets his arch nemesis face to face. Blofeld sports a bald head and a large scar under his eye. He still has the white Persian cat with him as well. As was the deal before, Blofeld commands respect from all of those who work for him, often making them very nervous in his presence. He sends out his men several times to kill Bond, but they all return, failing. And as always the case, failure is not an option with SPECTRE. As a result, he kills Helga Brandt as well as Mr. Osato. During the final assault on his volcano lair, Blofeld makes a quick getaway, undetected by everyone else to return again. Memorable lines: “You only live twice, Mr. Bond.” “Kill Bond! Now!” “Extortion is my business.”
Mr. Osato – Teru Shimada Mr. Osato is the head of Osato Chemicals and secretly works for Ernst Blofeld. He meets with James Bond and orders his death. When that fails, he then turns the matter over to Helga Brandt, where she fails as well. He then works with Blofeld later on in the final assault, but learns that the price of his failures is death, and is shot. Memorable lines: “You should give up smoking. Cigarettes are very bad for your chest.”
Helga Brandt – Karin Dor Helga Brandt is the confidential secretary to Mr. Osato. She later on captures Bond at the Kobe docks, and then executes a plan to kill him. It fails however, and she becomes the meal for Blofeld’s piranhas as a result. She at one point threatens to use some torture implements on Bond if he doesn’t tell her all he knows. Memorable lines: “I hope you won’t force me to use it.”
Hans – Ronald Rich Hans is the bodyguard to Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the volcano lair. He is given the keys to destroy the SPECTRE spacecraft after they have captured the other. He also gives a demonstration to Blofeld’s associates of the power that his piranha fish have. Bond fights Hans at the end of the film for the key. It’s a close match, but Bond ultimately wins when he throws Hans over him and into the pool of piranhas.
Girls
Ling – Tsai Chin Ling is seen with James Bond in the hotel room as the two discuss Chinese girls and other girls. She later activates a button that sends him into the wall as two men come in an open fire. Memorable lines: “Darling, I give you very best duck.”
Aki – Akiko Wakabayashi Aki is one of the main girls in this film. Bond is wary of her at first, but she soon turns out to be an extremely efficient ally. She turns up in her car in the times when Bond needs a quick getaway, and also arranges for the helicopter to pick up the enemies car behind them. She goes to the Ning-Po with him and would marry James Bond if he had had his choice. She is later killed by a SPECTRE enemy as she sleeps next to Bond. He is very sad when he realizes her fate. Memorable lines: “No one will disturb you tonight. I think I will enjoy very much serving under you.”
Helga Brandt – Karin Dor Helga Brandt is the confidential secretary to Mr. Osato and meets Bond during his appointment. She finally accepts him to take a glass of wine and then later threatens him with torture implements on the Ning-Po. She is a SPECTRE agent an unsuccessfully tries to kill him on their flight. As a result of her failure, Ernst Stavro Blofeld sends her falling into his pool of vicious piranha fish. Memorable lines: “Mr. Osato believes in a healthy chest.”
Kissy Suzuki – Mie Hama Kissy Suzuki, whose name is actually never mentioned in the film, is the agent that marries James Bond as apart of his cover while in Japan. She takes him into her home, immediately showing how she keeps business and pleasure separate. As they both progress on their journey, they develop more of a liking for eachother. She dives for shells and brings Tanaka and the others back to the volcano to help. Bond and Kissy finally get some time alone in a raft after the battle, only to be interrupted by the MI6 staff. Memorable lines: “It’s business.”
Gadgets Walther PPK – (Dr. No – Tomorrow Never Dies) The Walther PPK is first issued to James Bond in Dr. No by Major Boothroyd, when his Beretta is taken away. It delivers shots like a brick through a plate-glass window and has excellent stopping power. It has saved the life of James Bond on many of his missions and has been used to stop several of his main adversaries. Bond has lost the PPK on numerous missions, always getting a new replacement from Q Branch. Professor Dent is the first unlucky victim of the powerful handgun in the famous scene in Dr. No. The Walther PPK is 7.65mm and carries six rounds.
Safe Cracker – This safe-cracking device is used by James Bond to breaking into the safe at Osato headquarters. The device cycles through possible numbers in the combination and then a light illuminates each time a correct number in the code has been found. After the device had decrypted the combination, the alarm unfortunately sounded as Bond opened the safe.
Breathing Device – This device is used by Bond when he appears dead and is given a burial at sea early on in the film. As he floats to the bottom of the water, covered in wrap, divers quickly come and take him aboard a submarine nearby. As they slice open the suit, a live James Bond is revealed, and the breathing device was removed from his mouth. He then requests permission to come aboard. The suit has another layer of plastic below which can be un-zippered.
Cigarette Rockets – This “baby” rocket is useful to people who smoke too many cigarettes, as Tiger Tanaka says. The small rocket shell was concealed inside a cigarette and was fired upon lighting the cigarette. It exploded on impact and was useful on targets up to 30 yards away. Bond used the cigarette to his advantage when Blofeld underestimates it and allows Bond to smoke. Bond then fires it at one of the control men, which allows him to then open up the crater to Tanaka’s men who are waiting outside.
Rocket Guns – Demonstrated by Tanaka to Bond, these rocket guns when fired exploded on impact. There are small holes in the back of the ammunition, and were used at the Ninja training school.
Lipstick Bomb Device – This innocent looking device was used by SPECTRE agent Helga Brandt aboard the plane she is traveling on with James Bond. After she applies it to her lips, she drops it to the floor, to which it then explodes and emits a grey smoke in the cabin. With the help of the wooden plank holding Bond down, it allowed Helga to make a quick escape from the plane.
Helmet Camera – James Bond uses this built-in helmet camera when piloting Little Nellie on his exploring of the island.

Blofeld: The firing power inside my crater is enough to annihilate a small army. You can watch it all on TV. It's the last program you're likely to see.
