Commander Carter – Shane Rimmer

Commander Carter rules over the USS Wayne and welcomes James Bond and Anya Amasova aboard later in the film. He helps them to locate the Liparus, but then his submarine is later caught.

He then further helps Bond in the battle on the Liparus and allows Bond time to get to Atlantis to free Anya before he is forced to destroy the base.

Memorable lines:

“All the same, I think it might be better if I did.”

Sheikh Hosein – Edward de Souza

Sheikh Hosein has obviously known James Bond previously before as he graciously welcomes Bond into his quarters. He gives him information on the contacts that Bond must make to track down the submarine tracking system and then calls in a beautiful woman to help persuade Bond to stay the night.

“Are you quite sure I can’t persuade you to spend the night?”

Sir Frederick Gray-Minister of Defense – Geoffrey Keen

Sir Frederick Gray, who is first present in The Spy Who Loved Me, would often sit in on the briefings between James Bond and M. He is a high ranking Englishman who seems to always be concerned with the antics of James Bond and how it looks upon others. He is devastated when he shows up in a gas mask to Hugo Drax in Moonraker.

In Octopussy, he arranges for the precious jewels to be returned to General Gogol and then speaks with M about the disastrous attack on the MI6 safe-house in The Living Daylights.

Films: The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights.

Memorable lines:

“My God! What’s Bond doing?”

“I’ve never been so humiliated in my entire life! Your man should be taken off the assignment.”

General Alexis/Anatol Gogol – Walter Gotell

General Gogol is the KGB head of section and the opposite of M. He is often seen with his lovely secretary and takes an interest in several of the cases that James Bond works on as well. In The Spy Who Loved Me, he sends out Anya Amasova to locate the tracking device.

He works against James Bond in For Your Eyes Only when he tries to get the precious ATAC first. Bond throws it over the cliff, humorously alluding to détente between the two of them. In The Living Daylights, he arranges for Kara Milovy to travel as she wishes.

Villians

Karl Stromberg – Curt Jurgens

Karl Stromberg, with his webbed hands, is a reclusive megalomaniac who is bent on creating a new world. He is convinced that the undersea world has everything one needs in life. There is beauty, ugliness, and death. From his underwater base, Atlantis, he makes his plans for this. He orders out Jaws and Sandor to kill all who have come into contact with the submarine tracking system which he has been using to capture submarines.

Stromberg is a villain that sits back as he orders his other men around, and does not like failure or disloyalty. He sends the mistress at the table to her death for disobeying him and tries many times to kill Bond.

He takes Anya back to Atlantis at the end of the film and then confronts James Bond there. Dodging a bullet from under the table, Bond fires back, and doesn’t miss.

Memorable lines:

“Observe, Mr. Bond, the instruments of Armageddon.”

“Good-bye, Mr. Bond.”

Jaws – Richard Kiel

Jaws is one of the most famous characters to ever appear in a James Bond film. At a towering 7’2, he is a magnificent threat to Bond, as he plays Stromberg’s henchman who kills his enemies with his steel-capped teeth. He tries many times to kill Bond, aboard the train and in the car chase, but isn’t able to.

At the end of the film, he escapes from Atlantis.

Naomi – Caroline Munro

Naomi is the lethal assistant to Stromberg and quite capable in flying a helicopter. She is apart of the massive chase on Bond and fires many times upon him in his Lotus. Flying along side, she gives a playful wink before unleashing a wave of bullets at him.

She meets her end when Bond fires a missile at her helicopter.

Memorable lines:

“I’m Naomi.”

Sandor – Milton Reid

Sandor is the henchman that is assigned to work with and obey Jaws. He kills Felicca when she is speaking with Bond and then Bond chases him to engage in a fight on the rooftop.

The two battle it out until Sandor stands unstable at the edge, hanging onto Bond to survive. After answering Bond’s question, Bond swiftly knocks him off the roof to his death.

Sergei Borzov – Michael Billington

Sergei is the lover of Anya Amasova and also the leader of the ski attack on James Bond at the beginning of the film. He skis towards Bond, but is killed when Bond turns around and fires a bullet at him.

His death causes some problems between Anya and James Bond later in the film.

Girls

Log Cabin Girl – Sue Vanner

She is seen with Bond in embrace in a lone cabin. When James Bond is called away by headquarters, the deceitful woman sends word to the men waiting to ambush him that Bond has just left.

Memorable lines:

“Oh James…I cannot find the words.”

Major Anya Amasova: Agent ‘XXX’ – Barbara Bach

In some ways, the equal of James Bond, working for the Russians, Anya is an efficient agent who teams up with Bond to take on Stromberg and recover the microfilm. She has never failed on any mission, and the two try to outdo eachother for a good portion of the film.

She later grows angry at Bond when she learns it is he that has killed her lover. It is evident though that she holds no hard feelings at the end of the film after he rescues her, as grants Bond’s ‘last request.’

Memorable lines:

“I’ve never failed on a mission; any mission, Commander.”

Felicca – Olga Bisera

Felicca is the woman who looks after certain affairs and the home of Fekkish. When Bond tries to find out his whereabouts, she seems nervous and hesitant to give any information.

She is killed when Sandor fires down on the two from a higher perch.

Memorable lines:

“Is there anything you would like…anything at all?”

Gadgets

Walther PPK – (Dr. No – Tomorrow Never Dies)

The Walther PPK is first issued to James Bond in Dr. No by Major Boothroyd, when his Beretta is taken away. It delivers shots like a brick through a plate-glass window and has excellent stopping power. It has saved the life of James Bond on many of his missions and has been used to stop several of his main adversaries.

Bond has lost the PPK on numerous missions, always getting a new replacement from Q Branch. Professor Dent is the first unlucky victim of the powerful handgun in the famous scene in Dr. No.

The Walther PPK is 7.65mm and carries six rounds.

Watch –

This allowed MI6 to send short messages to Bond while in the field. Bond receives orders from M on the type connected from his watch during the precredits sequence. It immediately required that he report in.

Ski Rifle –

While it appeared to be nothing more than a common skiing pole, it actually concealed a rifle inside. By flicking a latch, Bond could aim the rifle on his pursuers and fire a bullet.

He used it as he was chased by Sergei and his men during the precredits.

Anya’s Cigarettes –

This cigarette, which Anya owned, could be used to blow its effects on other people, causing them to instantly fall asleep.

She used this to her advantage on Bond while on the boat with the microfilm.
