Allies
Felix Leiter – Norman Burton Felix Leiter returns yet again, meeting James Bond at the airport as he poses as an inspection officer. He looks over the body of the real Peter Franks, and finally asks Bond where the diamonds are located when he cannot find them himself. He later watches over the circus when their plan goes into effect and then joins Bond when he goes searching after Willard Whyte at his home. Memorable lines: “I give up. I know the diamonds are in the body, but where?”
Sir Donald Munger – Lawrence Naismith Sir Donald Munger meets James Bond and M early on in the film and gives them an in-depth briefing on diamonds and the smuggling of them. He believes that someone is stockpiling the diamonds, which could eventually lead to greater problems down the line.
Willard Whtye – Jimmy Dean Willard Whyte is the famous reclusive billionaire who “plays monopoly with real buildings.” He has been kidnapped by Ernst Stavro Blofeld and because of his reclusive nature; no one would realize he was missing because they never see him anyways. Blofeld used a voice-box to simulate his voice and quite literally become Willard Whyte and have control over his vast operations throughout the country. Bond rescues him later on from his home after dealing with the physically fit Bambi and Thumper. The two discuss Blofeld’s intentions and figure out the location of Blofeld’s base where he holds refuge as he holds certain locations for ransom. Whyte travels with Bond to the oil rig in helicopter and is then seen at the end of the film. Memorable lines: “Baja?! I haven’t got anything at Baja.”
Villians
Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Number 1) – Charles Gray Ernst Stavro Blofeld is now stockpiling the world’s diamonds in order to construct a deadly satellite in order to hold countries for ransom. He has assumed the role of the reclusive Willard Whyte and conducts all of his operations from many of Whyte’s institutions. He holds Washington D.C. as the prime target unless his payment is made. Bond of course comes to sabotage the plans and manages to trap Blofeld inside of his batho-sub as he tries to escape. What happens to Blofeld from then on is debatable. Memorable lines: “Once again Mr. Bond, you’re absolutely correct.” “You're showing a bit more cheek than usual Miss Case. What a pity…such nice cheeks too. If only they were brains.” “An excellent question. And one which will be hanging on the lips of the world quite soon. If I were to break the news to anyone it would be to you first, Mr. Bond, you know that.”
Mr. Wint & Mr. Kidd – Bruce Glover & Putter Smith These homosexual assassins make for a dangerous pair of enemies to James Bond. They do all the little dirty jobs for Blofeld, such as killing many of the people associated with the diamond pipeline. They both later take on James Bond as well during the finale of the film. It is the scent that Wint wears, which Bond had detected before, that gives them away. Wint goes overboard with a bomb attached to him and Kidd jumps over after being
set on fire. Memorable lines: “If at first you don’t succeed, Mr. Kidd…” “Try, try again, Mr. Wint.”
Peter Franks – Joe Robinson The real Peter Franks here is on his way to meet with Tiffany Case when Bond intervenes. Bond rides the lift up with him and then the two engage in a hard-hitting brawl. The long fight continues outside of the elevator, and Bond finally throws him over the hallway railing to the floor below.
Bert Saxby – Bruce Cabot Bert Saxby is Willard Whyte’s right-arm man. That is, until he started taking orders from Ernst Stavro Blofeld. He tries to kill the real Whyte when he is set free, but fails. He is then taken down by Leiter’s men.
Professor Dr. Metz – Joseph Furst Dr. Metz is the brains behind the satellite for Blofeld and is very easily irritated by James Bond when they meet in the laboratory. Metz is later present on the oil rig, constantly losing his nerve. He pushes Blofeld to the limit, getting a strong warning in return.
Bambi & Thumper – Lola Larson & Trina Parks These two lethal gymnasts give 007 a run for his money when he tries to cross their path. Working together, they fight him as he searches for Willard Whyte. Bond finally gets the upper hand in the pool. Memorable lines: “First, we’re gonna have a ball.”
Girls
Gadgets
Walther PPK – (Dr. No – Tomorrow Never Dies) The Walther PPK is first issued to James Bond in Dr. No by Major Boothroyd, when his Beretta is taken away. It delivers shots like a brick through a plate-glass window and has excellent stopping power. It has saved the life of James Bond on many of his missions and has been used to stop several of his main adversaries. Bond has lost the PPK on numerous missions, always getting a new replacement from Q Branch. Professor Dent is the first unlucky victim of the powerful handgun in the famous scene in Dr. No. The Walther PPK is 7.65mm and carries six rounds.
Clamp – At the beginning of the film, James Bond is caught by Ernst Stavro Blofeld and his men. Bond innocently puts his hands up as one of the guards comes to unarm him. Reaching inside his pocket, his fingers are then caught in a clamp concealed inside of Bond’s jacket. The deadly clamp latches onto the fingers once caught inside of it, locking them inside of it’s razor edges.
Latex Fingerprints – Issued to James Bond by Q, these latex fingerprints could be used to impersonate someone else and came in quite handy while Bond was undercover as Peter Franks in Tiffany Case’s apartment. Tiffany manages to get a copy of Bond’s fingerprints on his glass, and then takes it to get him some ice. She checks the print with a copy she already has of Peter Franks and the two match perfectly. The prints can later be taken off with items such as tweezers.
Piton-Firing Pistol – As James Bond quietly tiptoed around the upper levels of the Whyte House outside, he required the use of this piton-firing pistol. Leaning around a corner, Bond fired the piton, which is then attached to a high-intensity cord which can latch onto its target and support Bond as he moves around. Later on, Bond uses the device for a less conventional use: to shoot Blofeld’s double in the head.
Slot-Machines Ring – This gadget is one surprisingly not for James Bond, but for Q. It is used to synchronize the devices inside the machine as the ring was pressed against the lever, which then resulted in jackpot payouts. Q’s been aching to give it a try for quite some time.
Voice-Box – This gadget is first seen being used by James Bond’s nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld. It takes a fed pattern of a voice and can be used to create the same output when a different person uses it. Blofeld uses it to impersonate Willard Whyte, and Bond does as well to fool Blofeld.
