Allies

Damian Falco – Michael Madsen

Damian Falco is the chief NSA agent who also is the boss-figure for Jinx. He is present at the prison transfer of Bond for Zao and expresses his concern at the action to M later on.

He is also present later in the film when they try to take down the Icarus satellite. Not one to be out-done by the British, he sends Jinx on the mission to stop Graves as well.

Memorable lines:

“You’d think he was some kind of hero.”

Mr. Chang – Ho Yi

Mr. Chang is the owner of a hotel in Hong Kong that James Bond coolly walks into, dressed in the worst fashion, requesting his usual suite. Chang is then later shown to be attempting spying on Bond with the masseuse. He gives information on Zao to Bond, requesting that Bond say good-bye when he catches up with him.

“Been busy, have we Mr. Bond?”

General Moon – Kenneth Tsang

General Moon is the father of Colonel Moon, who is believed to have been killed by James Bond in the pre-credits. He tries to get information out of Bond on who made his son betray his country, which Bond truthfully does not know either.

Later in the film, he meets up with Gustav Graves, who reveals himself as his son, much to the general’s shock. Moon then grabs a hand gun and directs it at his son. Graves is saddened by the action, and then quickly kills his own father.

Raoul – Emilio Echevarria

Raoul is a sleeper agent who is “awoken” by James Bond when he arrives in Cuba. He equips Bond with a car and binoculars, and also finds the whereabouts of the dangerous Zao.

After Bond has returned from the battle at the island, they analyze the diamond Bond collected, tracing it to Gustav Graves.

Memorable lines:

“A tourist?”

A few moments later she escorts Bond over to Frost and Graves to introduce them all. When asked by Graves if she’d like to place a bet on the match between him and Bond, she declines and walks off.

Memorable lines:

“I see you handle your weapon well.”

Villians

Gustav Graves / Colonel Tan-Gun Moon – Toby Stephens / Will Yun Lee

Colonel Moon, who had a Western education at Oxford, now lives in the demilitarized zone in Korea. He is also Gustav Graves, who he becomes later on in the film as a result of gene therapy, modeled after James Bond in certain details.

He craves power and domination, and is the creator of the “second sun” Icarus and a well known name in the diamond business. He plans to take control and make Korea a colossal power, prepared to stop anyone in his way.

He crosses swords with Bond in a fencing match and also meets him again in Iceland. In their one-on-one battle aboard the Antonov, Graves dies when his suit is activated and he flies into the propeller.

Memorable lines:

“Time to face destiny.”

“Diamonds are for everyone.”

Miranda Frost – Rosamund Pike

Miranda Frost plays the biggest double cross in the film when at first she is thought to be an undercover MI6 agent working to find out information about Gustav Graves. It is then later revealed she has a history with him, they were on the Harvard fencing team together, and really works with him.

As cold and frigid as ice to Bond at times, she is a powerful enemy and goes along with the entire plan of Graves.

She meets her end however in the vicious one-on-one sword fight with Jinx on the Antonov plane.

Zao – Rick Yune

Zao meets Bond early on in the film as the bodyguard to Colonel Moon. His face is injured when the bomb is triggered by the case of diamonds, sending shards of them onto his face.

He is later tracked to Cuba by Bond, but makes a daring escape. In the final scenes, the two have an all out car battle on a frozen lake and in the ice palace. Zao meets his end when Bond shoots the cord of a icicle chandelier above his head.

Memorable lines:

“How’s that for punchline?”

Mr. Kil – Lawrence Makoare

Welcoming James Bond to Iceland, Mr. Kil is a reserved, but powerful enemy. He takes pleasure in the thought of death soon coming to Jinx as she is strapped to a table with a laser moving towards her head.

He later fights with James Bond in the room where Jinx is held captive. He finally dies when a laser cuts directly through the back of his head. His hand is then severed to grant access to another room for Bond and Jinx.

“I’m Mr. Kil.”

Mr. Van Bierk – Mark Dymond

She is a feisty agent who seems to run into Bond at every location until the two finally team up to work against Graves. She is captured by Zao and Graves and is nearly killed by their laser when Bond comes to her rescue. At the end of the film while Bond is battling with Graves, Jinx goes up against the dangerous Miranda Frost. The two cross swords until Jinx gets the upper hand kills Miranda, completely to Frost’s surprise.

Memorable lines:

“Oh, I’ll always be a jinx to you.”

“Oh, I think I’ve got the thrust of it.”

“Read this. Bitch.”

Peaceful is the masseuse at the Hong Kong hotel that James Bond attends. She is beckoned into Bond’s room when he first sees her, but Bond doesn’t take for all that she appears to be.

When she orders him onto the bed for the massage, he grabs the handgun she was carrying and then breaks the mirror in the room, revealing Mr. Chang, a rolling camera, and his associates.

Bond watches them leave the room later.

Verity – Madonna

Verity is the fencing mistress at the Blades Club in London. Keeping a very keen eye on Miranda Frost as she practices with Gustav Graves, she meets James Bond as he arrives for his lesson.

Memorable lines:

“I see you handle your weapon well.”

Gadgets

Walther P99 –

After using the Walther PPK for many, many missions, James Bond comes across the more powerful, slightly larger Walther P99 in the arsenal inside the bike shop in Tomorrow Never Dies. As he has wanted one from Q for quite some time, 007 makes the switch.

The Walther P99 is light and powerful. It carries 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition. It can be fitted with a silencer.

James Bond first uses the P99 in the second half of Tomorrow Never Dies. Its rapid rate of fire comes in handy for the vicious gunfights which were to follow during the finale.

It returned with Bond in The World is not Enough, playing a part in the precredits sequence and accompanying Bond for the rest of the film.

In Die Another Day, Bond uses the P99 during his VR training sequence at MI6 headquarters and later has the bullets from the gun stolen from him by the deceptive Miranda Frost.

Omega Watch –

GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is not Enough, Die Another Day

This blue-faced Omega watch has been with Bond during some of the most recent James Bond films. It has been used for a variety of different missions and has often come through to help save the day.

In GoldenEye, the watch came in handy when Bond and Natayla were trapped inside the compartment of the abandoned train by Alec Trvelyan and Xenia Onatopp. Bond was able to use the laser built into the watch to cut through the hatch in the floor of the compartment. With only seconds to spare, Bond managed to cut through enough and kick down the hatch, allowing the two to just barely make a safe escape. Later in the film, Bond’s watch was disabled by Trevelyan, disarming the mines Bond had set around the headquarters in the process.

In Tomorrow Never Dies, James Bond came upon a new Omega watch in the arsenal of weapons and gadgets located in the bike shop as Wai Lin searched for the whereabouts of Carver’s stealth ship. Later in the film, he uses it to his advantage when he sets up a remote controlled grenade to cause a massive explosion while held at gunpoint by Carver.

In The World Is Not Enough, his watch is fitted with a grappling piton that can lift his body weight. Bond uses the watch in the field as a light source when he with Elektra after the snowfall, and again to lift Christmas and himself in the bunker.

In Die Another Day, the watch houses it’s detonator, which James Bond can trigger.

Underwater Breather –

This underwater breather issued to Bond by Q could be used to give him extra oxygen while underwater. It was obviously used only in the event of an emergency and had a supply of extra oxygen for only a few minutes.

Bond uses the breather several times in Thunderball, once to stay alive while locked under Largo’s private swimming pool. He also uses the gadget in Die Another Day when dropping through a hole in the ice and going to rescue Jinx.

Sonic Agitator Ring –

This ultra high frequency single digit sonic agitator unit” was built into a standard size ring which, upon twisting, could be used to shatter bullet-proof glass.

Bond uses this ring when held at gunpoint over a glass floor by Graves, Frost, and Zao to make a quick getaway.

Surfing Board –

This simple looking surfboard actually contained several surveillance and communication equipment. By twisting a section of the board, a sliding panel was revealed, where the equipment was revealed.

Communication equipment, explosives and detonators, as well as a Walther P99 were some of the items that were stored inside. Bond used these items in the precredits sequence of the film.
