Role: Teaching Jewish values through the medium of interactive story telling and leading group processing. Choose and interactively tell stories relating to values and lessons found in the Torah, linking them to our own lived lives. Facilitate discussions of empowering ways to integrate these connections to spirit in their daily lives. This is an essential element to this work. Goals: - Foster a sense of being able to make a positive difference in this life in the present and future. - Facilitate and foster integrative processing, group discussions of the stories and themes, with focus on their relevance to each childÕs own life. - Nurture a sense of true community within the synagogue and within the world at large. At Rodoph Sholom Religious School, Devorah developed an original program that focused on creating ongoing original group Midrash stories with the children throughout all of the grades. In an interactive process, their own midrash was created through group collaboration using powerful Jewish stories as a foundation.

LIBRARY SPECIALIST/STORYTELLER, NON-SECULAR

Rodoph Sholom Day School NYC 1995-1997 Library Specialist, Nursery Division, 3 year olds program (see attached Program outline) Developed and taught weekly story-time program which incorporated use of recorded classical music as an underscore to the books. What I discovered about the use of this carefully chosen music was that it served to deepen the children's level of focus on the stories. For the children with various special needs challenges, adding the music made a huge difference in their engagement with the stories. Created interactive singing/movement piece to accompany each book, each week. As part of my library program, the children were invited to tell their own stories to the class each week. These were tape-recorded and transcribed. to view some of these stories click here.
