| Other than Jessie's confession, there was no evidence linking Jessie, Jason, and Damien to the crime. The police continued to question acquaintances for the boys, hoping to find something. Jerry Driver testified that he had seen Jessie, Jason, and Damien together, walking, wearing long black robes and carrying staffs. Driver also admitted that he had linked Damien to unsolved crimes in the past. The police were able to find 3 witnesses that would play the suspects at the scene of the crime. Narlene Hollingsworth and her son Anthony, a convicted sex offender, testified that Damien and Domini were seen near the place where the bodies were found. Narlene's daughter, Tabatha, also testified the same thing. Of the seven people in the Hollingsworth van that night, only four had said they saw Damien and Domini. As they were all questioned, the story was full of holes and contradicted each other. The prosecution foudn three more witnesses. The first two claimed to over hear Damien say, "I killed three boys, and before I turn myself in, I'm going to kill two more. I already have one picked out." According to testimony, this was said at a softball game, after Damien had already been arrested. The third witness, Michael Carson, testified that Jason had admitted to the murder. Michael was in the detention center that Jason was sent to. Michael testified that he had said to Jason "Just between you and me, did you do it? I won't say a word. He said yes and he went into detail about it. It was just me and Jason. He told me he dismembered the kids, or I don't know exactly how many kids. He just said he dismembered them. He sucked the blood from the penis and scrotum and put the balls in his mouth." A counselor at the detention center later admitted to discussing the case with Michael. |
