| SOAD- Hypnotize Review |
|
System of a Down-Hypnotize It was worth the wait also ;) This album is the perfect friend to their "mezmorize" album. "Hypnotize" is noticeably darker, and deals with the "anti-war" theme in a different light. Songs like the extended "Soldier Side" and "Tenative" express the helplessness and hopelessness that war can bring to soldiers, their familes, and the innocent people killed in war. It is really powerful stuff and System is very good at conveying the mood of a song. Lyrics such as "no one's going to save us now... not even GOD!" (Tenative) and "They were crying when their sons left.."God is wearing black" (Soldier Side)... use God to convey the message, which makes it much more powerful. Of course SOAD cannot realese an album that is all sadness and seriousness. There are some notable antics on this one too such as "Vacinity of Obscenity" which to me sounds like alot of intoxicating non-sense and "she's like heroin" which makes fun of prostitiution some what. All in all If you liked "mezmorize" you will definately like this one. Another notable sad song is "lonely day" which doesn't seem to deal with any subject matter other that being extremely bored. Nonetheless it is a good song and Daron does a really good job with the vocals on this one. Daron sings alot more on this album too, almost like he is taking Serj's spot ;) but they make a good Duo and we wouldn't have it any other way. |
