Colorado Trip - Thanksgiving 1999 - Part 1

Spanish Peaks in New Snow

So, having been to Colorado only twice before, we have been there four times in 1999...not to mention bought 60+ acres of land. But what a view! Definitely well worth it. For our final trip of the year, we invited my parents and my sister (who lives in Westminister, CO) to meet us down in La Veta for a few days. We all stayed at the Cuchara River Inn (a picture of it is below.)

It was a great time for us all. Arrived late on Saturday. Sunday it was beautiful and we went for a drive down the Highway of Legends (Colorado 12) as far as Cokedale. When we came back up, we detoured to Cordova Pass (11,743') and got into some snow. After that, we headed up to Blue Lake, at about 10,500' elevation where it was snowing in earnest. Had a great hike around the lake.

Monday, we got 8" of snow in La Veta and it was absolutely beautiful.

Here's a panorama of the Cuchara River Cabins (Refurbished Spring 2000 and re-named Rustic Shack Cabins) during the 8" snowfall we had while we were there.

This panoramic scene looks north up the Highway of Legends. We are a bit below Cordova Pass.
