Pat was drafted by the Blue Jays in 1986.  He gradually worked his way to the big leagues getting his feet wet in 1991 and 1992.  In 1993 He finally got his chance to be a starter and he helped carry the Jays to the World Series winning 19 games and then winning game 3 of the World Series.  Pat continued to improve each year, making the All Star teams and finally in 1996, he won the Cy young award.  The Jays rewarded Hentgen with a new contract.  In a day when players are constantly leaving town to get their ring or a bigger contract, Pat wanted to stay with the Jays.  You could not ask for a more loyal team player than Pat Hentgen.  He always gave his best on the mound and it was exciting to watch him pump his fists after a big strikeout or wait for a teammate after a great play.  Even when he started to struggle in 1998 he was always accessible to the media.  Pat Hengen was the ultimate pitcher for the Blue Jays, it's just a shame they ignored that and traded him to the Cardinals.  On November 18 2003 the mistake of trading Hentgen was corrected and the Blue Jays signed him to a one year contract.  Pat has now retired.  Thanks for the memories.
