Student Smart Card Access System

We have developed a package for our college which completely takes into account every aspect of college Registration section, Library section, and the Hostel. The unique feature about this project is the use of Smart Card for the authentication purpose. The standalone application for each of the above mentioned departments has been developed using Visual Basic on Windows. The centralized database is maintained using MySQL on Linux. We have setup a web server on the same Linux machine. Every student can view his personal details and details about the library and hostel dues on the web using the username and password.
This project has helped me gain knowledge on the Serial Port, configuring a database server, configuring a web server, and about handling of the Smart Card Reader from our PC.
Well this project has been sponsred by KSCST ( Karnataka State Council of Science and Technology ) and it has all been selected for a state level exhibition where it was given the "Certificate of Commendation" and recoginised

Network File Searcher

We have developed a peer to peer file sharing tool for Linux platform. This tool can be used to locate or search for a particular file on the machines connected to the local area network (LAN) and download that particular file.
This project has helped me understand the concept of networks and network programming under the Linux platform.

Digital Tuning of FM Receiver

This is project that we had undertaken to understand the working of the Parallel Port. We have developed software that can be used to control a FM receiver from your PC through the parallel port. The tuning of the FM receiver is controlled using a stepper motor of a 5 ¼ floppy drive. The output from the receiver is given as input to the line-in pin at the back of the PC and is played on the PC speakers. The user can set the FM receiver to which ever frequency he likes and he can also record the output of the receiver.
This project has helped me understand the working of Parallel Port and has given me a hands on knowledge of programming with the Stepper Motor using the Parallel Port.
