Why Firearms for Politicians. |
Firearms given to members of parliament are becoming a threat to law-abiding citizens. The Defence Ministry should withdraw all firearms issued to parliamentarians as almost all of them have been provided security by the state. State invests on security forces and department of police considering all these aspects so then, why do they need firearms? More than that what is the qualification or the specialty they carry to hold it. Is it to threaten ordinary law abiding citizens or disturbed lawful systems? |

As we learn from sources making a proper solder is basically a brainwashing an individual to help others neglecting the individual benefits. This is time taking process with lot of training and close monitoring is involved with. The process of transforming civilians into armed individual to protect law & order has been described by military historian Gwynne Dyer as a form of conditioning in which inductees are encouraged to partially submerge their individuality for the good of their Nation. But what is happening today in Sri Lanka? Every Dick Tom & Harry are carrying firearms under there belt and point it on our heads for there individual gains. Not only them there sons too have become a burden to the society by using those against the unarmed ordinary citizens. |

One example I can pick is the action of one Minister in attempting to obtain a visa for his son, using his ministerial powers and failing that threatening the officials showing his firearm. |

We as the citizens of this poor country contribute in all sorts of means to the state to maintain the country. So is this the result we want? Do I have to pay some money out of my pocket to maintain my killer? |
Since the very first day of this issuing of side arms to politicians in Sri Lanka has the Ministry of Defence done reconciliation? How many of them have properly handed over the Arms and ammunitions back when they were rejected by us? Are there any usages of ammunitions issued and for what purpose by whom? Was that brought to the notice of relevant authorities? |
There is also a need to critically examine the performance of individuals in the society and their mental suitability prior to provide with arms for there personal security. This is a responsibility of the all political leaders irrespective of what party they are belongs to. If this can happen prior to the preparation of the candidate lists for the elections after some time may be generation after the next can enjoy a peaceful, lawful, political leaders ruling us with out bribery and corruptions where there is no worry on our lives for us to implement the agreed procedures. |
