| Save Bethesda Chapel In the city centre of Stoke, lies the derelict building of Bethesda Chapel. Built in 1819, Bethesda Chapel is a grade II listed building urgently in need of repair. The building was recently featured on the BBC's Restoration programme in which it made the final. Unfortunatley, it wasn't chosen as the building to be restored, so it continues to lie in a sorry state, unless enough money can be raised to restore it. The total cost is estimated to be 2.5 million. |

| Over the years, Stoke-on-Trent has attracted a lot of 'bad press', much of which has been unfounded. It has always been seen as a grimy place, which arised from being an industrial city. Mining and marl extraction for the pottery industry, left huge areas of derelict land. However, in the last couple of decades, much of the derelict land was transformed into a variety of different things, including three nature reserves across the city, business parks & even the new football stadium. Many factories have since shut down since the industrial age of Stoke, but the increase in the number of cars on the roads means that the 'smog' remains! |
