Hi everyone, sorry it's been a while since I've written.  My father took my CPU for an upgrade, when I entered the hospital almost two weeks ago.  So please bear with me as I fill in my missing days.  I hope to find you all well and look forward to your own journey.

My Hospital Stay
Tuesday January 27, 2004   DAY 1:
Well this morning didn't start off well at all, I almost didn't make it at all to the hospital due to my BF being a real selfish ass.  He decided to pick a fight with me, then almost blocked me in the driveway, let alone was running late.  I ended up driving myself and convinced myself that I only needed me to be strong enough to get through this.  I couldn't wait for my parents to show.  My BF ended up showing up about 15 minutes later, the nurse told me that if he started up they would throw him out.  But he ended up disappearing when my parents showed anyway.  Time really flew by by the time they came to wheel me into surgery, even once I was in the OR not a doubt crossed my mind, no crying,  I wasn't even nervous.  This was the strongest I ever felt and I knee deep down inside this was the right decision.

I woke up in a lot of pain in recovery, and boy was it crazy in there.  Amy was a welcomed face, she brought me a "Bari Bear".  It's an adorable teddy bear specially made for surgical patients.  The nurses were great in recovery too. As soon as I woke up someone was at my side, my first words..."oh God it hurts"?.  They gave me a shot of morphine in my arm right away.  I was in recovery for a while, I didn't get transferred to my room until 2:00 PM, my room was private by the way.  My parents weren't notified until 3:30PM.  By the time they came to see me I felt fine.  I had more discomfort than pain and yes people no problems with my throat.  I did have dry mouth, but the nurses gave me a swab & ice chips.

I did get up to walk twice tonight, but after 11PM no one came help me so I stayed in bed.  I never did get one of the pain control pumps, but they did show up with the morphine shots as soon as I rang.  I dosed on and off, I really didn't get much sleep.  One thing is for sure I'm glad they left the foley in, I couldn't imagine getting in and out of bed all night dragging myself to the bathroom.

Wednsday January 28, 2004   DAY 2:
Today didn't start off bad.  Amy came by for a quick visit which was really cool.  I had my leak test early but didn't get cleared for water for another 5 hours!!!!  It definitley was a day for pushing myself, when I came back from my leak test I was a bit worn out.  As soon as I got myself out of the whelchair and into my chair phyical therpay came for me and I had to get right back on it.  Physical therapy wasn't hard, they made me get in and out of my chair, walk and climb a small platform of stairs.  I was just tired and still hurting from lying on my back all night.

I finally met up with Lynn.  We hung out on and off, it was nice to have some company and compare our experiences (she had the lap band).  I must admit today was hard and the night was even harder.  I din't sleep much at all, little cat naps.  I did however have my first "what did I do " moment around 3:30 AM.  I just sat in bed and questioned my decision, I was almost in tears.  I spent the night sitting up in pain, unable to sleep (the pain meds didn't help) and feeling absolutely alone in my decision.  I only managed to get in 20 oz of water and a little bit of broth.
Thursday January 29, 2004  DAY 3:
I finally got a couple of hours of sleep, only to get busted by my doctor at 7AM laying on my side.  He said it was okay because I didn't sleep all night.  Funny thing is I preferred the bed to the chair in my room.  Unfortunately I had to spend most of my day in the chair.  There really wasn't much to do other than walk and watch TV.  My hang out buddy went home yesterday (lap bands leave early) so I was kindof bored.  But honestly I was too tired to read or write in my journal.  But I was feeling much better, even standing straight while walking.  I even managed to get in 40 oz of water and even my broth. I finally got a bath too.  I never in my lifeever let anyone (other than my BF) see me nude and touch me!!  I didn't care, I needed it.  I felt so much better too, then they told me I could take a shower so I did that too.  Unfortunately I needed help afterward, but that was okay, I was clean :).  I ended up having to have a suppository which only caused me more pain and discomfort, but I did finally pass gas and a very small BM YEAH!!!!  And if that wasn't enough torture they gave me potassium by IV.  I cried for 45 min.  The pain was unbearable.  They finally removed it and gave me the liquid which I tossed out.  I know, that was bad but you drink it.
