PLANET FICTION

Web-Shite Fiction Index

OSTRICHES
This was my first ever story, written about 1997, me thinks. I was office-temping in Cardiff at the time, and the events in the story actually happened.

At the time, the Big Issue Cymru were running their annual 'Poetas' competition and I submitted this as it seemed to suit the homeless theme prefectly.

No, it didn't win, but yes, it did get published!
First story written, first time-published!
Modest aren't I?

P.O.V.
In 1999, I moved to North Harrow, in London. Whilst there, out of boredom and desperation, I joined a Writer's Circle.

I hadn't written anything since OSTRICHES, but started cranking some stuff out at this Writing Circle.

I was reading Ryunosuke Akutagawas 'Rashomon' at the time, and really dug In a Grove, so I had a stab at modernising it - Enjoy!

BRO / KEN MIRROR
This was the second thingy I wrote at the circle. It's all dialogue, which is something that seems to be creeping into all my current projects.

I forgot I even wrote this, until recently when an artist friend was sniffing around for inspiration for a picture of Heaven / Hell.

I told her about the themes/imagery I used here, and I hope she paints it - I can steal the pic and put it on my web-site! Mwahahahaha!

REALITV
This is a bonkers piece. For my first year of Creative Writing, I wrote stories around the theme of Reality.

This is the first of the Quartet, concerning reality viewed through the lens of a TV.

SUDDEN FICTION?
Even I don't understand what's going on here. Communist Space-Ants? Special Forces and a woman who smells of milk?

Can you spot the thread through them all?
If so, let me know. I wouldn't mind knowing myself.

THE ABSTRACT LIFE OF MR. NOBODY
This is one of the few things I've written that I actually enjoyed.

It arose from a Monologue exercise in Creative Writing, and the title is adapted from Tim Burton's 'The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy'.

CONTINUE?
The final piece of the Reality Portfolio. You may have noticed that I swing from Idea-pieces to Action-pieces. This is definitely an Action-piece.

I can't tell you what inspired this, it would spoil the twist. But you're bound to guess where the 'mood' came from.

That was an anagram, by the way.

STANDARD PRACTICE
This piece was generated by a Creative Writing exercise. I had to write something that nudged reality's borders.

As I was reading Daniel Wallace's 'Big Fish' at the time, I ended up writing this bizarre ditty.

This is what Professor Xavier should be doing, instead of having crazy adventures ...

THE JUSTICE CABINET OF EXTRA-ORDINARY MPS!
I was in a brain-storming session, trying to help out a mate who was stuck for story ideas, and this is what I suggested.

Total bastard that I am, I liked the idea so much, I took it back.

LEMON TREE
This is my favourite thingy I've ever written. The antagonist in this story, is by far, the coolest that's ever existed ...
