| THE FIRE OF 1914 AT ITS HEIGHT This picture was taken from the corner of Washington and Main Street during the height of the fire of 1914. Both sides of the block are burning. The lack of water has put the fire out of control. Help is coming from Terre Haute in the form of railroad water cars and a fire truck. However, the frame and brick buildings go too quickly and by 4:30 in the afternoon, four square blocks from Lawton Street to the railroad on both sides of the street are leveled. |

| July 25, 1914 - THE DAY AFTER THE FIRE Looking south on Meridian from the railroad. Over half of Jasonville's business district is in ruins and the cleanup begins. Rebuilding starts immediately and by fall of 1914 many merchants are back in business again. Today, many of the same buildings are still in use in Jasonville's attractive business district. |
