David Gilmour (1968-the Present) Lead Guitar/Songwriter
David Gilmour became the lead guitarist after Syd Barrett left the band in 1968. David usually filled in for Syd during the early Floyd concerts. They asked him to fill in for Syd because Syd was pretty unpredictable, sometimes Syd would play, and other times he would just kind of stand there on stage just staring at the crowd while the rest of the band played the songs. So they had Dave come help them out. Eventually he replaced Syd. Then in 1984 when Roger quit the band he took over the songwritting responsibilities. SInce then Floyd has only released two albums with new material on them.
