| So yea, theatre is hella (haha no cal!) tight. It's basically what got me through school until my senior year.. by that point i had other things to entertain me, though i continued theatre anyway. I made most of my friends either workin the shows or in the classes (never took an acting class tho muahahah.. wait.. maybe THAT'S why i suck so bad..) Um, anyway. I don't want to do a pro's of theatre.. at least not on the start page. i already wrote way too much with that history thing.. so this is the theatre index page. Look and see where you can go! I might end up putting that history stuff on it's own page instead of taking up half of this one btw.. but if i did that i'd have to write much much more.. so maybe not. laziness makes ALL my decisions :o) | ||||||||||||
| Random Actor Extravaganza! This section is pretty simple. I am going to totally break down ONE actor per however often i feel like changing it. This synopsis will include all/most shows performed in, all characters, the big ones with little descriptions, experience, age, birthday, current projects, a quote or two and that sorta thing. Also will have a picture (if i can manage it'll be from a show they had performed in) Just so we are clear, the actors portrayed will be ones i know.. not random celebrities. If for some reason you would like to be featured on this page PLEASE email me cuz i would be most honored to do so.. cuz i sure as heck fire do not want to put myself on here.. no sirree bob! | Recent Shows This section is gonna list the more recent show(s) that i have had the pleasure of viewing. It'll give minor plot description, who i was to see it in, favorite character, favorite actor, so on and so forth. I've not quite decided what "recent" is gonna mean. It'll prolly be as many as i can fit on the page.. reasonably.. and may depend on how busy i get with work and school and such I may also do past shows, like ones we did at north and such. Oh, and anyone else that has seen shows recently can email me that same info that i would post on shows i've seen and i'll put those up too with credit of course attributed to whomever submitted it. | Momentous Theatre This page is all about various fantastic moments in theatre. By fantastic i do not mean groundbreaking or anything like that. What i mean is particularly moving or well written. Depending on how long the scene is, i may include the scene itself, like typed out. But if it proves too long, it'll have high points, synopsis, why the scene was so great. If someone recommended it to me, they shall also be mentioned for their grand contribution. Special thanks to Sean for coming up with this idea, i rather like it! Without further ado.. | Showtune Lyrics Uh, not too much needed to explain. I'll put a few (5 or so prolly) songs on here, and hopefully all the lyrics will be correct. if i screw up sorry.. just tell me where i biff'ed and i'll change it after makin sure i really did bonehead it. Uh, y'all can submit your fav showtunes too (and i hope you do!) i think it'd be cool to get some different types of songs, and since i tend to only like certain types of songs, it'd be great for you drama jocks to contribute here. i really want this whole site to be more of a collaboration after all. I'm too boring to do everything :o) Showtunes |

| Theatre: the deception that is always entertaining.. or at least is always SUPPOSED to be entertaining anyway. I find theatre to be a necessary lie. Not for myself mind you, but for the world to have. I know some people that would probably go insane without the escape that theatre provides them. Not just a means of leaving our own reality by entering another, theatre has had a significant impact on the lives of most everyone on earth. Starting in ancient Greece, theater was originally developed from the ceremonial worship of the goddess Dionysus, in which men in masks would perform as the chorus danced, sang, and commented on the drama being presented. In those days theatres were very modest; consisting mainly of a pit for the chorus, a room for the actors to change in, and the proskenion, which would eventually become the stage. As the world entered the Roman era, theatre became less religious and more oscene and bloody, becoming banned by the christian church. Because of this ban, up until about the 10th century, most actors and performers were considered social outcasts and there were almost no structures devoted to theatres, and traveling troupes of actors traipsed across the land. The big switch from traveling troupes to guilds and professional players came with the development of the miracle plays, stories mostly taken from the bible performed by the priests first within the churches, then on the streets. The stages created for these were often elaborate and decorative, which led to increased public interest in drama, which sprouted the guilds of the age. Also, with the obvious interest sprouting in part from the fantastic stages, a trend of focusing more on the set itself than on the acting and drama developed. This trend is best demonstrated by the success of the Italian Opera. As theatre was becoming more widespread, new audiences were needed to continue the popularity of the art. To this end, it was decided that the middle class was the perfect target. And so the focus of theatre again ranged back over to the acting and the drama. A fore runner of this idea was Stanislavsky, who stressed the importance of absolute identification with the characters they were to betray (not always easy THAT'S for sure). As the art became more refined, more and more theatre emerged who performed more for the art than for the money. This also eased us into experimental theatre, in which the barrier between player and audience was minimized and eliminated. Uh.. yea, no conclusion yet.. so uh.. fin! That was my history of theatre in brief. For an expanded version, do your own research :oP |
