Recent Shows
you know..shows that i have seen.. recently.. in the not too far gone past..
I try to go out and get some culture as often as possible. Because i like theatre and the zoo.. those are typically the culture i receive. Don't ge tme wrong, museums and such are cool too, but when i am absorbing culture like that, i prefer to be alone to think about it.. understand where the artist is coming from (or try to anyway). and since i lack a car, i don't get a lot of alone time outside of the house. Though that will change soon! Then you'll see.. YOU'LL ALL PAY FOR MY FORCED SOLITUDE!! muahahahahahah! yea.. i'm not bitter.. sigh.. anyway, this page is about shows that i or my friends have seen somewhat recently. I myself have seen two shows in the last week or so.. though i know that's not something i can/will maintain so yea. If you've seen a show and want to tell us about it, say something!
First up.. Footloose!
On August 2nd, I with a couple friends (Amanda and Jeanine) went and saw FootLoose at the RCC Landis Theater.. or whatever it is. We went for a few reasons.. one, it was something to do. Two, we like musicals. And three, the most minor of all reasons (haha) this one guy we kinda know..BARELY really was in it.. what was his name again.. began with a G.. George? no.. uh.. Greg! yes that was it! Greg Nabours or something like that. Just some guy ;-) So we went to see Greg perform. I enjoyed it, even if i did miss half of the second act trying to get ahold of Gretl who had called both my pager and 'Manda's cell phone just after act 2 started. Anyway, good music in that play. Couple of the songs were even good enough that i am gonna dl them as soon as i get the chance! wow! Greg played "Garvin" btw, a minor/supporting role, but cool nonetheless. The basic plot is that a young man, Ren, is forced to move from the big city of Chicago to the small town of Bomont (spelled correctly :oP). The main problem with this small town is that many things have been made illegal, such as dancing, due to the efforts of the local preacher, Reverend Shaw. So naturally this young man becomes interested in the Revs daughter, Ariel, and together with the high school population convince the town that such laws are stupid and constraining.. with lots of dancing and singing! My personal favorite character was Rusty, cuz she had some great lines and one of the best songs. My favorite actor was Sarah Ayotte, who played the part of Vi Moore, the Revs wife. We (being all the people i talked to) agreed that she was the only one really acting in a leading role. And she was great! My favorite song probably would have been "Somebody's Eyes". It was done well and it created great mood effects. So there ya have it.. good music.. script wasn't all that great.. but the play overall was pretty entertaining, so if you like showtunes, i say go for it. Also, none of the songs were terribly difficult and the lines weren't overpowering, if you are thinking about auditioning for the show.. and stuff.
