Welcome to
Flash's Internet web page. Flash is a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Calais Coupe, born in July of 1984 in GM's Arlington, TX
manufacturing plant. She got her name because of a time I
remember when dad drove her to the supermarket one night and I
was (of course) standing in the driveway watching (and listening
to) her leave. I had just washed Flash that day and the shiny wheels and white
letter tires were kind of "flashy" rolling down the road. So, I named
her Flash (just like the Basset from Dukes of Hazzard).
I first got her in May of 1995 with only 58k miles on it. She was repainted white because of some rust spots on the door and
rear fender. To keep the rear end in check during the winter, I
found a 7.5" anti-spin rear axle from a local salvage yard
with 2.29:1 gears (2.14:1 was the original ratio). She has
14"x6" chrome SSIII (Super Stock 3) wheels, which mount
215/70R14 Kelly Charger tires. The gentleman who first owned her kept her in impeccable shape. The interior color is burgundy, with a
center console and accompanying floor shifter.
Under the hood lies a 307 cui. V8. A 4-bbl. Rochester Quadrajet carburetor breathes
through a K&N Filtercharger. Flash exhales through a Walker dual exhaust system with a single
catalytic converter and two mufflers. It's the OEM replacement
system for the G-body H/O and 442 and sounds great!
I just replaced the two sealing strips on the T-Top "edges". These were allowing quite a bit of wind noise at highway speeds. They cost me less than 20 bucks apiece and I'm real happy with the way they turned out.
For more information about Flash, check out her RPO Decal page. It shows each and every feature that the factory installed on Flash. Here's a more user-friendly "spec sheet".
If you haven't seen it already, be sure to check out Smokey, my 1987 Buick Regal Limited. I bought this car in September of 1999 so I could spare the Cutlass of the rigors of day-to-day driving. I'm really enjoying having two cars and this Regal does need some work (both mechanically and aesthetically), so there's never a dull moment around here!
