TRIP TO UTICA
August 23-24, 2003

Road Photos and Views from the Road
BGS (Big Green Sign) on the New York Thruway (I-90) Westbound in Utica. Exit 31 (where we needed to exit) leads directly to the downtown Utica area (Genesee Street), as well as surrounding smaller communities such as Whitesboro and New Hartford.
Taken while heading home to Long Island from Utica on Sunday, August 24, 2003. This BBS (Big Blue Sign) shows what can be found at the Thruway's Indian Castle Service Area. Taken on Interstate 90 (NYT)  Eastbound, approaching Exit 29A near Little Falls.
I-90 (Thruway) Eastbound at Exit 29A (NY 169- Little Falls/Dolgeville) in Eastern Herkimer County.  The BBS for the approaching Indian Castle Service Area is also present.
Some views of the nice scenery along the Thruway (Interstate 90) Eastbound.
We exited the Thruway at exit 25 (I-88, NY 7- Schenectady/Binghamton) for a short side trip to Howe Caverns in Howes Cave, NY. Here is an example of some of the magnificent scenery along I-88. This photo was taken as we approached our exit for Howe Caverns. Taken Westbound on I-88 in Schoharie County.
Another magnificent view from the parking lot of Howe Caverns in Howes Cave, NY. I-88 can be made out in the distance.
Another view from the parking lot of Howe Caverns in Howes Cave, NY.
A charming view of the scenery from the Howe Caverns access road in Howes Cave, NY. At this point, we were leaving Howe Caverns. (For the few photos from Howe Caverns that came out well, go here.)
Back on I-88, this time Eastbound, approaching it's last Eastbound exit. (Exit 25- NY 7- Rotterdam/Schenectady) At the time (August '03) , NYSDOT was working on the Eastbound lanes and shut them down entirely, diverting Eastbound traffic (us) on to the Westbound lanes. This resulted in only 1 lane of travel for each direction.
Taken Southbound on I-87 (NY Thruway) in either Ulster, Albany, or Greene counties. Those are some of the Catskill Mountains in the Distance.
