| Jareth's Queenie's Own View on 'Labyrinth' | ||||||||
| When did I first see Labyrinth? I have no idea. But thats the point its just always been there. Ive always looked up to Sarah as a big sister, Ive always hated (kind of!) Jareth and Ive always sat on the fence about Hoggle. (I just dont know whether I like him, OKAY??!!!) Some things have changed, of course. I now get why theres a ball stuck in the middle of the film, for example. (It took me a while, but I got there). So, what do I love about Labyrinth? I suppose its one of those cases where it would be quicker to describe what I dont like about Labyrinth. In fact, that would take no time at all. Ive tried, but there really isnt anything I dont like about it even if I like it in a post-Modern kind of way. Take the ending. Everybody knows the endings a bit strange - rubbish some might say. You know, this is the most poignant moment of her life so far (If you ignore the painful break-up of her parents), and what does she do? She has a big party of course. This may seem a little odd, but I have grown to love this ending because I can twist it to fit in with what I think about the film. The real reason it ends on such an upbeat note is that ALL kids 80s films ended like that. It was the done thing. They lived happily ever after and all that. The reason I like it is much more appealing to Labyrinth fans, Im sure. To me, this IS a happy time for Sarah. Some people think its sad that shes leaving her childhood fantasies behind, but she isnt totally doing so. Every now and again in her life, she needs them. And now she knows that theyll be there, and she doesnt have to worry about them taking over like they used to. Now, they have no power over her. And thats one hell of a reason to celebrate if ever I heard one, dont you think?! Wow! I'm really getting into this! Want to know more? CLICK HERE! |
