| The main features of the CHUM line of sport utility boats.
Hull characteristics. 1. Relatively high deadrise at transom(18 degrees), makes her much more comfortable in sea way than the majority of boats in this size range, whose deadrise is generally in the 10 to 16 degrees range. 2. Chine flats are 8 wide aft, gradually narrowing to 2 forward. The wide chine flats aft give the hull extra lateral stability underway, while narrow chine flats forward prevent slamming against oncoming chop. 3. In transverse section, chine flats are horizontal throughout. |

| Construction.
1. The maximum beam is 8-2". 2. Hull structure consists of longitudinal girders and transverse frames, which egg crate into one another to make assembly quick and accurate. 4. To make the boat easier to assemble for an amateur builder, with no access to a break press, there are no bent flanges used in the design of this boat. All flanges are of weld-on type. 5. I believe in being able to access and remove the fuel tank, if necessary. This option is provided by locating the fuel tank under a soft patch in the cockpit sole. The console and the drivers seat are welded to the soft patch and the whole subassembly through bolted to main hull girders. This arrangement is optional. Conventional arrangement, fuel tank welded in for good, is possible. Function. 1. Transom height is 25. It is designed to handle twin, 20" leg, 90hp, four stroke outboards. 2. The boat can be made unsinkable by foam filling the cavities under the cockpit sole. 3. Recommended power for the boat is 2X90HP. 4. Custom alterations will be considered (additional and/or different configuration of lockers or seating). 5. The Chum hulls are designed with 4stroke(somewhat heavier than 2 stroke) engines in mind. 6. Cockpit is self-bailing. |
