Who
I am...........
Hi everyone.
Let me start by thanking you for visiting my site and
introducing myself. My name
is Jared Staub and I'm a music education
major at the Central Connecticut
State University Department of Music.
I started playing trombone in fourth
grade because I saw it in a book and
thought it looked interesting.
I guess I was right because I've been playing ever since.
Well, not exactly. My junior
year of high school was a turning point in my playing
career because I switched from
tenor down to bass trombone. I love
the parts that I get to play on
bass and I'll never go back to tenor. Throughout
high school and college I have
been fortunate to have had some really wonderful teachers.
I have studied with David Kayser
at the Hartt
School of Music Community Division,
George Sanders, who is the second
trombonist of the Hartford Symphony
Orchestra,
David Wampler, who freelances
throughout Massachusetts and Victor Johnson,
bass trombonist of the United
States Coast Guard Band and the Eastern Connecticut
Symphony Orchestra. Currently,
I am the bass trombonist of the CCSU
symphony band, jazz band, sinfonietta,
the Beth El Synagogue Orchestra
and the City Lights Jazz Orchestra.
I held one of the bass trombone chairs
in the 1996, 1997 and 1999 New
England Intercollegiate Honors Bands,
and I was principal bass trombone
of the 2000 Intercollegiate Band.
I have also performed with
the BSO.......
the Bristol Symphony Orchestra....not
the "other" BSO,
the Farmington Valley Symphony
and the Bristol Brass and Wind Ensemble.
I chose to major in music
because I really can't imagine doing anything else.
Some of the greatest moments
I've ever experienced have been sitting in an ensemble
with my horn on my shoulder, or
standing in front of one with a baton in my hand.
Aside from playing my other biggest
musical interest is conducting.
And speaking of conducting, I have
had the privilege of studying
with and performing under some
of the best. I have had the distinct
pleasure of performing under Maestros
Gary Hill, Ray Cramer,
Robert Spevachek and Jerry Junkin
in the four Intercollegiate Bands that
I played in. At school, I
have had the good fortune to have
studied with some of the finest
conductors in the state:
Dr. Pamela Perry, Dr. Daniel D'addio
and Dr. Carl Knox.
You'll find them by clicking the
Central Connecticut State University Department of
Music website link below.
I was also extremely fortunate to have the
chance to study conducting under
Prof.
Anthony Maiello, director of bands and
conducting studies at George
Mason University in
Farifax, VA.
My reasons for building this site
aren't complicated. I'm constantly looking around
the internet for new ideas on brass
playing and new recordings by the top
performers out there.....anything
that will help me to be a better player and
teacher (I currently maintain a
private studio). This site contains links
to and information about all of
my favorite brass players and instrument
manufacturers. Whether you're
looking to further your playing or find an
instrument, music or recording,
my hope is that this site will help you do it.
If you have any comments or questions
about brass playing or this site, if I've
missed something or if you find
a mistake or incorrect information, please
E-mail
me.
If I can't answer your question,
I'll find someone who can. As I continue to
learn more about brass playing
and music, I hope to keep expanding and building
this site. I hope you
enjoy what I have here, and will continue to visit as the site changes.
Thank you.
