Neige came to us when he was about fourteen weeks old, from the pound in Sydney. Neige is a Maremma. He was found wandering around Sydney in a paddock, and we took him in. He is a great dog, very friendly, reasonably obedient, and is a very affectionate dog. Unfortunatly one of his hobbies is chasing the cats, but I'm hoping that he'll grow out of that one. Neige is about 14 months of age at the moment, so he's still a puppy. Neige enjoys going for walks, and visiting the alpacas, as long as they don't spit on him.
Neige had a rather nasty episode with ticks when he was about six months old. One night (about midnight) he started coughing and wheezing, and so we took him to an emergancy visit to the vets. The vets found six ticks on Neige, and kept him in the clinic to recover. In the morning they shaved him, and found three more paralysis ticks! Neige recovered fully, and probably has a good immunity against ticks now! Neige came home looking like a shitzu!
Neige was desexed as soon as possible. (ask your vet to find out when that is!). I would urge anyone with a maremma (or even another breed) very strongly to get their dog desexed. I know from personal experience that the difference is not noticable. It is the responsible thing to do, and Maremmas DON'T NEED ANY MORE RESCUES. Please don't breed these beautiful dogs unless you're a breeder.
