Weeks Five & Six (Yahoo
Week 25)
8 February 2003
This week the Commissioner's Commentary
will be pretty short, as, well, I'm lazy. Today we welcome a new member to the
group--Alpine Dream, currently 32nd overall. For the moment, I'm sitting pretty
at 22nd, but I fear I will come tumbling down after my decision to dump Thompson
and Geremi for James Beattie appears not to have paid off. Oh well, there's
always next week.
The final of
Wrigley's
Doublemint Gum Cup begins this week, as Chickenx XI and
BABYBLUES will be battling it out for the top honors, while Spiderz FC and The
JTs will be facing off for 3rd place consolation. In addition to updating all of
the Division League pages, I also did some work this week on the
Hall of
Fame. Sometime in the very near future, I will be working out the
details of a very spiffy CHAMPIONS LEAGUE for the teams listed on that page. By
my count, there are currently 23, and both Wrigley Cup finalists and The
JTs have already qualified. Therefore, to make the numbers for this league
nice and even, Spiderz FC will be added whether or not he wins the 3rd place
play-off. There will likely be a short group phase followed by knock-out
play.
For those of you who missed out on the
Champions League, despair not, for I will also be starting another cup
competition in two weeks after the current competition ends. Well, that's all
for now. Best of luck to you all, and see you in a couple of weeks (as next week
@ this time, I'll be kickin' it down in the Bahamas!!)
Weeks Three & Four
(Yahoo Week 24)
30 January 2003
A successful Week 24 saw both Toffee Boys
and Japhy's Boys2 jump back up the public overall leaderboard, with Toffee
leapfrogging JB2 and sitting at 26th, while JB2 lies 6 places further back @
32nd. The two also clashed this week in the
J-League, and Toffee eked out a 6-5 victory, as
Toffee notched the group high score and JB2 the group's 4th best. The Misfits is
now the sole undefeated team in the division, holding a 3 pt lead on 2nd placed
BABYREDS. Zinkley Rovers jumped out in front in
Division One, and his 4 wins out of 4--including a
tight 5-4 victory over Season Two's Division Two winner Chickens XI--give
him a two point lead on Clipse. The top of the table is tight in
Division Two, where three teams--The JTs, JACKSBACK,
& KALAMATA--are all tied on 10 pts, with maggie's posse just a point behind.
Croydon Albion U17s is the only side to take 4 wins from 4 matches and so is the
frontrunner in
Division Three, although Hammersmith Odeons, Rayners
Rovers & Ham n Hotspuds are all close behind.
Lastly, after the first leg of the
Semi-finals of the Wrigley's Doublemint Gum Cup both matches
remain finely poised, with The JTs just over two points ahead of
Chickens XI and BABYBLUES 14 pts the better of Spiderz FC [WBA].
Well, that's all for this week folks. Best
of luck and see you next week.
Weeks One &
Two (Yahoo Week 23)
23 January 2003
We kick off Season Three with a few new
additions to the group, among them the new 3rd placed team in the
group, Zinkley Rovers. Also new to the league are Liquid Riddim, A
Burden, 2nd Henley Cub Scouts and Beancounters XI. Welcome and good luck to
all!
This season I decided to use "double
weeks" throughout, as each week of Yahoo points generates the "goals" for two
weeks' worth of League Play. So, after the first two weeks in the
J-League, the top two teams in the group--Japhy's
Boys2 & Toffee Boys--are both winless and occupy the 11th and 12th places in
the division. KRAZY KILLERS and Division One champion The Misfits are the only
teams to win both matches and are the early pacesetters. It's a bit more crowded
atop
Division One, where four teams notched two victories
and are tied for first--Zinkley Rovers, Spiderz WBA, Chickens XI & Roots
United. It's the same story in
Division Two, where The JTs, KALAMATA, JACKSBACK,
& Ocsaigin all lead the way on 6 points, and in
Division Three, where Croydon Albion U17s, Rayners
Rovers, Hammersmith Odeons & Ham n' Hotspuds are out in front.
Lastly, after some tight first legs in
the
Quaterfinals of
The Wrigley's Doublemint Gum Cup, The JTs zoomed out ahead of maggie's posse on
the strength of a group high week score of 179.11. Spiderz WBA held on to defeat
group #2 Toffee Boys, while BABYBLUES sneaked past The Misfits by just 8 pts.
And lastly, my Japhy's Boys 2 was topped by Chickens XI for the second week
running. The Semi Final match-ups are all set up then, as BABYBLUES faces
Spiderz WBA, with The JTs facing Chickens XI.
Well, that's all for this week. Hope you
all are enjoying and good luck.
