Konnichiwa(sp?), this is my character profile page for Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I love the characters, they are excellent in personality and in the way they look. Hope u like it. I got most of my information from a place simply called Nausicaa, Valley of the Wind, u can click on the title to enter it, it's a great page.

Nausicaa: Nausicaa is the main character in this story, if u didn't know. In the dubbed english version, I think her name is Zandra (I like Nausicaa a lot better). And by the title...u can see that she is from the Valley of the Wind. She is a young 16 year old girl who is also known as the princess of Valley of the Wind and the only child of Jiru. She loves and is loved by her people, and the children of the village look up to her like an older sister. She is very kind, and is determined to find a cure for the poisonous forests, in which she found out that it was because the soil and water of the forests were polluted, which was the only reason why the forests are poisoned. As transportation, she rides on a jet-powered wind glider (she learned from Yupa). Her main companian is Teto...which is a little fox-squirrel animal. She also has a real soft spot for ohmus, which the people seem to be afraid of. Ohmus seem to like her too, because of her love. She actually died at the end when the ohmus went on a angry rampage. She died for her people and was run over...but the ohmus revived her and she came back to life.
Yupa: Yupa is from the Valley of the Wind. He is an old friend of the Nausicaa's father, King Jiru. He is Nausicaa's tutor, but left when Nausicaa was about 14 to research about the Fukias. His goal has been to solve the mysteries of the Fukais, in hopes of preventing them from spreading and eliminating the existence of mankind. He is also a very skilled swordsman and is known to be the BEST.
Grandmother: Lives in the Valley of the Wind with Nausicaa in a castle, where she saw Nausciaa grow into a young lady. I don't think she is actually Nausicaa's grandmother, but she is called "grandmother" throughout the valley. She is highly respected. She is old, wise, and can be a little wierd. I don't know if she is blind or just poor sighted. I think it's the latter one. Grandmother was the one told us about the legend of the saviour who will come to help mankind, and it is she realizes Nausica� is the saviour.
Mito: Also lives in the Valley of the Wind. He is blinded in one eyes and wears a patch over it...like a pirate. He is extremely loyal and trustworthy...to King Jiru and his daughter, Nausicaa. He is a very skilled pilot and protects the valley with his life. When Nausica� was attacked by a Tolumekia airship, he saved her by quickly shooting it down. He helped protect the people of the Valley by warning them of the Omhu attack, and guided them to safety.
Teto: Teto is my favorite character. He's just so cute and adorable. He is a little fox-squirrel type animal that Yupa gives to Nausicaa. Yupa got him at this house which was covered my poisonous stuff, and he mistakened it for a human baby. At first he doesn't like Nausicaa, but Nausicaa shows him that there is nothing to be afraid of, and they became very good friends and companions. You usually see him on the Nausicaa's shoulder.
Asbel: Asbel is from Pejite. He is a the twin brother of Lastelle. I think he is about the same age as Nausicaa is, and he's my second favorite character. When the Tolumekians kidnapped her (she died), he decided to take revenge, and so he shot their planes down. When he saw Nausica� signalling him to stop, he was distracted and was shot down himself. Although young in age, he is a very good fighter pilot. At first, he was in support of the Pejitians' plan to terminate the Tolumekians at all cause, including killing the people of the Valley of the Wind. However, after he meets Nausica�, he realizes what they are doing was wrong. He triesto save Nausica�, but was knocked unconscious by his men. Later however, with the assistance of his Mother, he succeeds. He pushes Nausica� off to save her people while he himself stays behind to fight the attacking Tolumekians.
Kushana: She is from Tolumekia, The Fourth Imperial Princess of Tolumekia, Kushanta's goal in life is to destroy the Fukais all the Omhus in exsistence. She is about 25 years old. Her motive behind her determination is the fact that when she was a child, she was attacked by an Omhu, and as a result, her arm and two legs were amputated. She had to grow up with a metal shell as an arm and has been very angry ever since. Although at times she appears to be mean and cruel, she is actually very afraid. She puts up a strong front in order to hide her fears and actually has a very caring heart. As the story unfolded, she changed into a gentler and more caring person. When Mito returned to the Valley, she ordered her troops to stop firing at him because she was worried about Nausica�'s safety. So even though she led the invasion of the Valley, Kushanta is not a hateful character. Her plight generates sympathy, and her goals and ideals are understandable. She could not have predicted the results of her actions and did not do anything out of cruelty or evilness.
Kurotawa: He is also from Tolumekia. Kurotawa is Princess Kushanta's General and has a love/hate relationship with her. He was quite happy when reports came in that Kushanta has been killed, but when she returned, he didn't seem to be angry at all. He is the type of person who likes to be in command of battles rather than actually be in them. Although he led the invasion on the Valley of the Wind, he is not exactly a bad guy. Like Kushanta, he is not a hateful character because he is not evil, or mean or cruel. He just happens to have different ideals and goals than the people of the Valley of the Wind and he does what he does in the belief that they are for mankind's best interest.
King Jiru: He is the father of Nausicaa, and the king of Valley of the Wind. He moved his people to the Valley of the Wind in order to escape from the wars outside, as well as the poison which exist in most parts of the Earth. The people care very much about him, and were very devastated when they found out that he died. Though he was dying from Fukai poison, he was killed by the Tolumekians when they attacked the Valley.Lastelle: Princess of the Kingdom of Pejite, and twin sister of Asbel. She was kidnapped by the Tolumekians when they destroyed her kingdom and stole the fire demon. She was being transported to Tolumekia when the soldiers angered some Fukai creatures and the airship was attacked. The airship crashed into the mountains and Lastelle suffered grave injuries. As her last words, she asks Nausica� to destroy all cargo aboard the airship. Nausica� tells her the fire destroyed everything, and Lastelle died happy with that knowledge. It is discovered later on that the fire demon survived the crash. Fortunately, Lastelle died without that knowledge.
