The Amazon queen named Antiope, is often also called Hippolyta. But, there is some debate whether Hippolyta was the actual queen, or the sister of the queen of the Amazons. In Greek legend, Hippolyta was the daughter of Ares, the War god. A possiblity of why she was a woman warrior, and was known to despise men. She wouldn't marry anybody, but she married Theseus after he conquered the Amazons.
