BLACK CLIFFS & BLACKBIRDS
part I: wandering about
BACK TO HOMEPAGE
TO PART II
As I am a man of little money, I can not afford to go on 4 week journeys into the northern wildernes every year. This year I wanted to keep things cheap. Just 2 weeks, a little wondering about, nothing mucht. France seemed like a good idea. I have never been to France...
The trouble is, I do not like warm weather. And I do not like crowds. France is visited by crowds, because of its good weather...
And then there was this friend. Mad about England, he is. Never stops talking about it. Damn him! England it was...
Day one, evening one: When in Rome...
English landscape, when visible over hedges...
Stonehenge. Beautifull, but one has to rise early to get a picture without crowds...
It is a shame to see how this magnificent site is squeezed in between roads, but impressive non the less.
Dartmoor, not as bleak or desolate as I expected, and a lot greener.
But when I try to imagine running a farm up here, it must be a hard life...
Over all, I found Bodminmoor more impressive then Dartmoor.
At Golitha falls I took a walk trough a most impressive old forrest
Golitha falls
Standing Stone at Bodminmoor. Reminds me of something, I am just not sure what...
The 'Hurlers' at Bodminmoor, 3 huge circles of standing stones.
One wonders why, on a place like this...
Cornwall, with impresive cliffs, but they are not white...
Somehow it is surpricing to see the friendly, gently sloping landscape all of a sudden take a plunge into a deep and forbidding coast
Corwall coast
Tintagel Castle, on the coast of Corwall
And then English vacation sett in, and Cornwall and the moors filled up.
I took to the road and found Wales.
A friendly elderly couple on motorbikes showed me the roads to follow.
All of a sudden, I was in a different country all together.
No more gently sloping hills, this was an impressive, wild land.
Just great...
