Tazumi ("Taz") and Jim are SPCA rescues, not brought in by the same people, but brought home with us on the same day. Sadly, Tazumi passed away on October 22nd, 2002. I will leave the description of Taz (below) unmodified from when we first got him. R.I.P. little one.
Taz is an older rat, and super affectionate! Within a minute of holding him he was licking up a storm, and the bruxing until his eyes boggled. He was clearly a pet, and I can't fathom why anyone would want to abandon him! However, I'm glad they took him to the SPCA, instead of releasing him into the wild, because if they hadn't, he wouldn't be living with us today. Sadly, he is showing mild paralysis symptoms in his legs and so he needs extra special care, but we don't mind - he's such a sweetie, you just want to love him to bits!
Jim is a younger rat, with a similar story. Another kissy boy, Jim had been at the SPCA since the summer apparently (why he wasn't listed on their website or telephone message is beyond me. Grr!) He too must have been a pet. Maybe he was a beloved child's pet but the parents didn't like him? (how!? - he's a sweetie!) He didn't come with the name Jim. We weren't sure what to call him at first. One SPCA volunteer had nicknamed him "Jimmy." Then we spoke with a friend who suggested "Jim Bloomfield, since pets should have last names." This was without telling him about the name "Jimmy." We figured the fates were trying to tell us something... I just hope my father-in-law (Jim!) isn't offended. :)
