I put this page together to tell you a little more about our products, handcrafted woodware in general, caring for your original pieces, and other handy tidbits you might be interested in..
The
warm, rich, look of natural wood !
Our Pieces : All of the items we place up for sale in our website have been handcrafted from original designs using various kinds of wood. No two pieces will be exactly alike. Props used to highlight photos, such as flowers in vases, candles in holders etc, do not come with the piece, unless otherwise noted in the description. Most props are used simply to give you an idea as to how the finished items may look in your home.
Very Important : Our vases only hold silk or dried flowers. They were not made to hold water and doing so will ruin them.
Examples of wood we use : Cherry, Maple, Yellow and White Pine, Willow, Red Cedar, Oak, Walnut, Ash , Birch , Apple and Mulberry.
Examples of finishes we use : Raw linseed oil, shellac, paste furniture wax and high gloss varnish,.
Photos : Photos may not show the true color and natural grain or design of the wood. We will do our best to highlight the grain etc. in our pictures. Some of the items created, may utilize several different kinds of wood and some, more than one kind of material.
Showcasing your pieces : Keep pieces away from excessive heat sources in your home. Ex : Direct sunlight, Wood burning stoves, kitchen ranges and ovens, or heat ducts and radiators, as they can dry out woodware too quickly causing splits.
Caring for your woodware : We recommend wiping down the exterior of your pieces, with a good wood furniture polish. every six months or so. Varnished pieces need only be dusted with a clean dry cloth. If you are using the piece to store food products, you may choose to wipe down the inside of the piece with raw linseed oil every six months as well, though it is not needed. We do not recommend placing any woodware in a dishwasher or immersing it in water.
Natural Imperfections : All woodware pieces will have natural imperfections as wood normally does. Knots may hold small cracks, and sometimes the grain has dark stripes or patches. This can occur when the tree itself got either too much or not enough rain, during its growing season. All pieces truly are one of a kind.
This piece has natural imperfections, dark stripes in the grain.
Unfinished woodware : These are items that have been made and completed, up to the point of adding stain or varnish.. You might enjoy putting the final touch on your own pieces, choosing the look you want them to have. Take a look in our unfinished woodware section , if you are interested in seeing these items.
Monthly Sale : Our monthly sale items will most likely be pieces that we have had for awhile, or items we have run out of room to store. We will try to offer a sale priced piece each month, simply because everyone loves a sale!
Bargain Basement pieces : You may find an assortment of chipped or slightly cracked pieces in our bargain basement page. We will point out the defect in separate photos, as I did below. These special priced pieces will be offered at a fraction of the normal cost. Some folks have plans to place a piece in a corner or high on a shelf where a chip or crack would not be noticed, or in the case of the vase shown, the chip is conveniently hidden behind silk flowers. Take a look in our Bargain Basement section if you are interested in any of these beautiful yet imperfect pieces.
