A Rainy Afternoon
Her chair rocked,oh so slowly As she hummed a little tune Staring out the picture window On a rainy afternoon... She smiled, now lost in thought As a vision came to mind Her children ,splashing puddles On another day this fine...

She looked around the fence line At empty beds that held no flowers But she saw them in all their beauty She had worked them countless hours... Looking down beside her chair, she saw Her basket on the floor With a partly knitted sweater But she can't so that anymore...
In the kitchen,in the cupboard Are the pots and pans she used To fix for her dear family The most delicious foods... But now, today, she's all alone The kids have moved away They don't come home too often And none would come today...
She thought she'd like a cup of tea But the effort seemed too much So she sat back and closed her eyes And felt a loving touch... And her chair rocked,oh so slowly As she hummed a little tune While she drifted off forever On a rainy afternoon...
