well this was the first time I went out on the town, even though I was well aware of how the Scots seemed able to party, no matter what night of the week it was. And there was no shortage of places to party! I ended up in a hostel room with 2 American sisters, Pamela and Holly. I was pretty thoroughly depressed by this point, and was realizing my money was about 1 British pound to 2 American dollars.. and it rained and i was soaked thru. The girls said they had been partying the night before at "HootNAnnies", and planned to return there later that evening. I said I will have to get directions, even tho Inverness thus far had proved very confusing to navigate. They said, better yet, I should just go along with them. So we left for downtown in a way I never knew existed, certainly was not the way I had arrived. And after a quick bite, we were in the downtown, off the main routes, a couple blocks north and east. HootnAnnies wasn't really going yet, it was early because it was still light out. Pamela had noticed some men in a pub we had already walked past and she wanted to return there for a minute. So we did. And hence we met Gary of Isle of Sky, and his two buddies. More Scot natives. More on my interaction with these 2 later. Gary was drinking Corona beer. The bartender turned out to be a fishing buff and he told me of a great fishing place to go to outside of Glasgow, near Loch Lomond. (need link) The Loch Lomond Aquarium |
Gary and Pamela appeared to be hitting it off well, and Gary said he wanted to take us to some other dive, so we left. And traveled 2 blocks west to the main route that crossed the Loch Ness River. Gary was an oil rig operator, in Aberdeen. This pub had a great one man band going, and he did Bob Dylan and Neil Young,.. Most of the dancing was girls with girls, and the local girls drank Budweiser Gary was looking very tired or possibly gassed at this point, and so we decided to move along. Leaving the great bouncer behind, we headed directly toward the river, turning at the edge and going into the pub there on the corner. This was Johnny Foxes. Johnny Foxes |
