Artist’s Biography
Jane’s collection represents over 40 years of deep initiation into her creative psyche. From exquisite miniatures to large pieces, Jane’s art emerges from her love for the mysteries of the human dream, the passions of the body and the raw power and beauty of the wilderness. It often reflects life’s whimsical nature. Jane reads art forms as dreams. Her work invites people to catch a glimpse of the numinous and to touch the truth that swims in the ocean of collective creativity.
Jane is the second of three daughters of Polish immigrants. She believes that her life-long creative passion was inherited from her mother. Jane is mostly self-taught. Her formal training includes The University of Toronto and Georgian College in Owen Sound, Ontario. Her work calls her to communities around the world where she paints, writes, enjoys physical adventures and mentors groups and individuals. She shares with them her artistic spirit and a healthy sense of humor. Her travels, internal explorations and a past enlightening dance with cancer continue to enrich her art, inform her teaching and nourish her personal life.
Jane Yaeger presently resides in the glorious Thousand Islands region of Eastern Ontario, Canada. Her art graces private and corporate collections internationally. It reflects a mature ability to render deep feeling in material form, engaging the clear eye and open heart of the connoisseur. Her work reveals itself in layers, invoking questions, evoking insight and offering inspiration
Statement of Artistic Purpose
“Art teaches me who I am. I paint to birth my creative essence into the world. Though a single work or even a larger exhibit may evolve visually and energetically within the context of certain themes or archetypes, essentially, my creative journey weaves relationships between mysteries; the mystery of the unseen world, the human dance and the power of the natural world. So, if I were to define what I do and why I do it, I would say that my work is a mystery unfolding, and my role is to render it clearly and lovingly into life.
What is my work saying to the world? On the surface, we may absorb only what meaning our unique perspectives, feelings or life circumstances may allow.
On a deeper level, art may share what is common to all; delight, curiosity, passion and the impulse to receive something new. A new feeling, insight or adventure into the unknown may ignite the flame of growth in our individual and communal journeys. We are changed, augmented, made whole both by creative process and by appreciating and tasting its fruits.
Artists are called to bring reverent attention to the life in and around them and to connect that life to the mystery from which it came. My work challenges me to let go of inhibitions and enjoy the passion, beauty and truth of human love in its relationship to the physical body, to inner and outer nature and to the Divine. We are invited to embrace what lives beyond color and form, sound and vibration, movement and feeling. What glorious fun it is, to dive into new territory as people, as artists and as art collectors when we allow ourselves the freedom to be in full relationship to our inner gifts and to their mature expression in the world.”
As I work, I am energized by an influx that bypasses intellectual control. Egocentric manipulation of technique and image dissolves. The limited perspectives of the ego’s control are replaced with a subtle and irresistible impulse. This impulse moves me to choose medium and colour and to feel nuances in hand pressure against canvass or paper. Directions of movement are suggested by intuitive impress and are followed without question, often without conscious awareness of what is to appear next. Talent and technique are now free to respond to the muse authentically. One’s gifts are now of service to Life’s intent. The challenge is to stay out of the way of the gift. The first question is “What wants to happen?” It all flows from there.”
