GREEN FAMILY

For those who like to know this is my blood family. John born in 1851 is my 4th greatgrandfather. Making all below my family!

In 1936, at the age of 86 John Green sat down and told his family story to his grand-daughter Margaret Leolia Green. Leolia type her grandfather story and made copies. The copies have been passed among Green members.

Note from Janet: The names here are spelled like John Green said them and () is the way they should be spelled.

� Green Family Story�

�John Green said "I was born 14 Feb 1851 Platte County, Missouri. My grandfather John Green SR, married a Tipton and moved from Georgia???, Settling near Lexington, Lafayette County. Missouri. (I (Janet) think they came from Eastern Tennessee. Maybe near Georgia area or maybe their parents came from Georgia.)

There were eleven (11) brothers and a sister, Sarah Green. John SR and a brother Elias (Elisha) Green settled in Platte Co. MO., not far from Fort Leavenworth. Elias (Elisha) Green married Lindy (Melinda) Green. (Lindy maiden was Green but they were not related.)

My father, Isaac (Tip) Green married Hiley (Mahalah nickname Hiley) Carter and their children were:

It is said that Hiley Carter and Isaac Tipton Green JR. the girl was the baby of the family.

The grandmother of Hiley Carter, Isaac Tipton Green�s wife, was from Tennessee. Her mother maiden name was Limbaugh (Linebaugh). A sister married a Bomar (Bowman) and she married a Carter"

Back to John Green's story:

"John Green(son of Isaac) commenced working as a cowboy when he was 17 years of age. This included following the various cattle trails across the Indian Territory from Texas to the Redlands in Kansas. He came through Fort Sill, Pauls Valley (than one store and a Blacksmith shop) on the cattle drive and also up the famous Chisholm trail. He recalled knowing General George Custer of the 7th Cavalry. About 1877 he commenced frming and continued in this occupation the remainder of his life.�

John Green�s grandson Paul says �That his Grandpa (John Green) always said he was 11 years old when the Bushwhackers killed his father. His mother sent him and his brother in the morning to hunting for their dad. Their dad had not come home that night. The found their dad dead and he had been scalp. Paul said �That would have been about 1862 or 1863."

I decide to take John Green's story about his family and see I could find more or to see what was true or not.

Now note from Janet. My family moved to Missouri with in few weeks my Uncle Paul Green send his brother, John Edward Green (my dad) this Green family story. My Dad give me the story and decided to find out if I could prove this strange story.

The following is what I found.

JOHN GREEN SR born about 1799 in TN/GA/VA., married about 1822-25, where is unknown as is first wife. John Green was married twice 1st to unknown and 2nd to Susannah Linebaugh. It is unknown when or where the first Mrs. Green died. In the 1840 Census of Lafayette Co. MO., there was John Green with young two males + one male that was John and two young females + a female. Since in 1840 census the name that is listed is head of household and just marks for each person who living with him. I can not tell if his wife is living or could be his sister.

I know they were in Lexington, La Fayette Co. MO., for I have John and Elisha land records.

After moving to Platte County, Missouri, John Green married Susanna "Anna" Linebaugh on 23 Feb 1841 it was filed 28 Feb 1841. Susannah first name can found in records as: Susannah, Ann, Anna, or Susan.

Susanna Linebaugh father Daniel died 1842. John was living at this time for in Daniel�s Will, Daniel mentions all children with their spouse. John and Ann Green are mention records until 10/18/1847 after this date only Ann is mention. This means that John must have died after 10/18/1847 and before 1850 Census.

In 1853 Susannah�s WILL states that she was leaving to her sister children: Martin, Daniel and Rebecca the land she living on. Her sister Berthsheba "Sparks" the right to live on the land as long as she never remarries. There is mention a Rebecca Limbaugh and Mary Limbaugh. As a witness to Susanah Green will is TIP GREEN. Rebecca Limbaugh, Mary Limbaugh was the sisters of Susannah and Barsheba sisters

In 1843 Susannah Green and her husband John Green sold the land that Susannah Linebaugh Green inherited from her father Daniel Linebaugh in 1841. This land was sold to Elisha Green. Elisha Green must have been John Green's brother for his son Elisha Green was to young at this time.

Now here is question: Was this land Susanah Green was leaving to her sister children her part of John Green's land? It have to be for she and her husband sold her land that she inherited from her father. I would love that land records for this.

(Barsheba was said to have married 2nd time to William Sparks in 1860s but when I find her again in 1880 she is Barsheba Carter. I have this marriage record too) Can anyone find her with William Sparks or where she was in 1870 census?

Can anyone find what happened to Rebecca Carter? If she married who was her husband? I think the boys died in Civil War. I found a Daniel and Martin Carter from Missouri in the Civil War record. The company listed that they lost a lot men in battle. So they could have died but I would love know for sure.

I also have marriage records of Mrs. Susan Green and Isaac Pearson m'd in 1847. My Susannah Linebaugh Green name was Ann or Susannah as far as I know never Susan. This not my Susannah Green but could be the wife of Benjamin Green found in 1840 Taxes list.

They are found in Lexington, La Fayette Co. MO., a John and Elisha land records.

When I first tried to prove this story "Of my grandmother Hiley Carter, Isaac Tipton Green�s wife was from Tennessee. Her maiden name was Limbaugh (Linebaugh). A sister married a Bomar (Bowman) and she married a Carter

I went to LDS Church site to see if anyone was tracing my family. There was a lady who had my John Green with 1st wife unknown and 2nd wife as Susannah Linebaugh. Looking under the Linebaugh family she had listed Elizabeth Linebaugh marry a Thomas Bowman and another Linebaugh named Barsheba married to a Carter. She said this family came from Greene Co. TN.

Well, here was Hiley, my greatgreatgrandmother and she was from TN. Her mother�s maiden name was Linebaugh. There was sister who married Bowman. But where was Hiley? I order the 1850 Census of Platte Co. MO. There was Isaac Green with wife name Mahalah. Living near or in same place was Barsheba with her children

The Carter children does matches the children found in Susannah Green will and as does their mother.

Well that put the family together but were was Tip and Hiley I order the 1860 Census of Platte Co. MO. Look at their ages of them in the 1850 Census and 1860 Census. When were Isaac and Hillie born?

Notice the spelling of Barsheba and children and were they were born from 1850 to 1860. Check out the age of Isaac and Hiley. Isaac aged 3 years and Hilie aged 8. Look at all the Census for Hiley make note of her age. Janet

John Green said that his dad was Isaac Tipton Green (his nickname was Tip green) and he was killed by Bushwhackers in 1863 in Platte County. Missouri

This still did not prove Barsheba was Hiley mother.

I order the 1870 Census of Platte Co. MO. Remember Isaac was killed in 1863. His other Hillie Carter Green the married Calvin (Collin) Stokes. In the 1870 census, Hiley should be married to Collin Stokes.

But I still have not proven that Barsheba was Hillie mother. So I order the 1870 Census but Barsheba is gone from Platte, Missouri. I can not find her anywhere in 1870 with or without her husband William Sparks. Their children David, Martin or Rebecca can found anywhere either. As I said before Rebecca could have married. Her brothers David and Martin could died in Civil War.

Well look here Bashaway Carter was the mother-in-law. Hillie�s children from her first marriage are not living with her but they still in county. Some are married and some are living with others. My greatgrandfather, John Green is gone and can be found in Bosque County, Texas with wife and children.

Now I know that Barsheba was Mahalah Hiley Carter Green Stokes mother. Remember I told you that a lady had done work on the Green/Linebaugh/Bowman family on the LDS Church site. This lady said that a Susannah and Barsheba�s parents were Daniel and Rebecca Bowman Linebaugh.

I order Daniel Linebaugh�s Will is 15 pages long. There I found that Barsheba (it was misspelled here too) husband was Caswell Carter. In his will he states that his daughter Elizabeth Linebaugh married Thomas Bowman, I now have proven the Linebaugh, Carter and Bowman link. Also mentioned in Daniel�s Will were John Green and his wife Ann. The finally settlement calls Ann, Susannah Green. I have copy of Barsheba Linebaugh and Caswell Carter marriage records in 1838 in Greene County, Tennessee.

So far John's Green family history is right on!!

John Green Sr's brother Elisha married Malinda Green. Malinda was not related to them (the family call her Linda Green). (Look at bottom of my page for Elisha and his family history). Nickname "Lindy" . I found a book which mention them in it.

But there is tombstone for him in Mt Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma

Paul said �That this would have been about 1862 or 1863.� As told above. Uncle Paul said �That it was his Papa that told him the story about his Grandpa, Isaac Tipton Green being killed in 1863. The story goes Bushwhackers killed that. John and his brother were sent out to find him. They found him dead and scalp.� It is my belief that Bloody Bill Anderson and his gang killed Isaac. "On the night of that memorable 26 Sept. a company of cut-throats met at the house of Jacob Fulcher, and hung him until he was unconscious. After robbing his house, they went to the house of John Rapp, robbed him, and hung him on leaning tree. They them went to TIP GREEN'S and after robbing his house, brought him to Rapp's house and hung him beside the dead body of Rapp. Two days later I was ordered , as public administrator , to take charge of Rapp's estate. The only valuable I found in his house was $20.00 bill of Confederate money, lying on the floor. It was said that the possession of this money was the excuse for hanging him. I did not inventory the $20.00.

"HISTORY OF CLAY AND PLATTE COUNTIES MISSOURI"

KANSAS RED-LEGS---- HANGING AND ROBBIES-- From the issue of the SENTIEL of Oct 1, 1863, We take the following:

"On Friday night last a gang of five men visited the house of as old man by the name of Raff (Rapp) living near Farley. They took him from his house and hanged him until he was dead. Raff was a German, a widower, who had two of his children living with him.

The assassins then went to the house of Tipp Green, living near by, took him from beside his wife, marched him to the place where they had hung Raff (Rapp) and hanged him. Both men were left hanging until Saturday.

On Saturday, the same gang went to the house of Mr. Titter and swung him up, to make him reveal whether he had any property concealed. They took him down, however, before life was extract, robbed him if some of his goods and a horse.

They then went to the house of Mr. Shepherd, who was not at home. Fortunately they told his wife they would have hung him if he had been at home.

In the meantime, a squad of Col. Moss' men had started after them. They came upon them just as they were in the act of hanging and old man, eighty years of age. His wife of about the same age had secreted herself, but the old man was too feeble to make his escape. They were fired upon them and one of their own men was wound. They succeeded, however, in getting off, but fled so precipitately that they left two head of stolen horses and a lot of store goods, among the latter of which was a burial suit, which Mr. Timberlake had kept in his house for a number of years. There were no marble yards on their route, or doubtless each of them would have stolen himself a tombstone.

They escaped into Kansas, where they reported that they had been driven out of Platte County because they were good Union men. For more this email me. Now you know how Isaac was killed. I own a copy of his will.

I must state some thing here. The bushwhackers could be Quantrill's Raiders. Riding with them was Bloody Bill Anderson; it said that when he killed anyone, he would scalp them. The Raiders were in Platte Co. MO during the time that my great-great-grandfather was killed. The Raiders were known as Bushwhackers. At the time for killing, riding with the Raiders was Red Munkirs. Red was my mother 6th cousin. So I guess you could say that my mother side killed my dad side of the family. I made a story out this which I will add it later.

I own a copy of their marriage record John Green died in Gravin Co. Oklahoma near Wynnewood, Ok. He buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, Gravin County,Ok. In John Green Obit. "Mr. Green was true Christian for many years. He was respected by all who knew him.

Marguriet Jane Kilmer was born in Douglas Co. Missouri on 8 Nov 1858 and she died 19 Oct 1955 in Davis, Ok. They were both buried at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley,Ok. Some of their Children were born in Tx.The family left Tx move to Missouri live they�re for four (4) years and some of the children were born there. Then they move to Faulkner County, Ark., Some of the children could have been born in Ark. They left Ark in 1903 for Garvin County, Ok.

Sevices for Marguriet Jane Green, 96, (Note from Janet she was 97) will be at 2p.m. Friday in the first Baptist Church here. Burial is to be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, with Behner Funeral home in charge

She was born in Douglas County, MO, and came to this state in 1901, moving to Davis six years ago. (note from Janet: the land rush was 1906, so it should have said 1906 not 1901) Her childhood was spent in Texas.

Suvivors include four sons. JI, Davis, Fred,Hollywood,Ca., Arthur, Ponca City, Bert, Davis; two daughters, Mrs Mytle Ricks, Davis and Mrs Gracie Merchant, Rung, Texas. two half-brothers, Tom Kilmer, Hot Springs, NM and Jesse Kilmer 211 S. Nebraska, Oklahoma City, OK. 35 grandchildren, 67 greatgrandchildren and 11 greatgreatgrandchildren. She was member of the Primative Baptist Church

Rites Set in Davis for Mrs John Gree, "Mr and Mrs Arthur E Green, Rt 1 have ben called to Davis because of the death of former's mother, Mrs John Green, 97, late Wednesday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Davis Baptist Church with the Bohner Funeral hom in charge. Burial will be in the Pauls Valley Cemetery.

Among the survivors are two granddaughters, Mrs Raymond Hankins, and Mrs George Hill. and 6 greatgrandchildrn. Mr and Mrs Hakins and Mrs Hill also are planning to attend the funeral.

Mary Cannon Smith committed suicide when she found out Sam was running around with Ellen Jerman (who he married the next year). Sam also committed suicide.

Burial is to be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, with Behner Funeral home in charge She was born in Douglas County, Missouri, and came to this state in 1901, moving to Davis six years ago. (Note from Janet: the land rush was 1906, so it should have said 1906 not 1901) Her childhood was spent in Texas. Survivors include four sons. Rites Set in Davis for Mrs. John Green, "Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E Green, Rt 1 had been called to Davis because of the death of formers mother, Mrs. John Green, 97, late Wednesday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Davis Baptist Church with the Bohner Funeral home in charge. Burial will be in the Pauls Valley Cemetery.

I have copy of the Newspaper of the Killing of COY GREEN. The title of the Article is DOUBLE TRAGEDY ATTENDS SHOOTING. Coy was 18 at the time of his death. Coy had married a young girl on Sat. 14 Aug 1920. Her father, Charles Belvin, had Coy put in jail, because The young girl was under age. Coy made bond and return to the Belvin's farm for his wife and a gun fight between the two-man lead to both of their death. The young girl name was Stella Belvin. They were married on 14 Aug 1920. The " Annals of Platte County, Missouri" mention the following about Elisha Green.

Elisha Green b East Tennessee on May 15, 1801; died Jan 9,1855. Malinda m'd Elisha before 1821. I was told be John(2) that they were married in GA. Malinda could have be born in Henrico Co. Va.( not proven) In the Spring of 1826, he moved with his family to Lexington, M. and thence to Platte in 1837.He purchased a wigwam of a Pottawatomie Indian and settled in the Missouri bottoms, near Farley.. In 1844 he move to Platte City, and erected the hotel still known as GREEN HOUSE. In 1860 the Green House in Platte Co., MO sold by sheriff as the property of Beauchamp, Moore and Clifford... bought by Jonathan Tipton for $2,0031.

"Elisha Green came to Platte county about 1838 and settled in the Missouri bottom above Farley, and opened a large farm. Found in the Trunk of Missouri Green Marshall Norton and donated to the Platte County Historical Society by Celelia Miller Fitch.

The 75th anniversary edition of the Placerville, Calif. Mountain Democrat contains the following letter written by A. St. Clair Denver of Chicago, regarding James W Marshall, the discoverer of gold in California, who was an early settler of Platte County, Missouri.

"It was not the spirit of adventure or enterprise which took James W, Marshall to the Pacific Coast. Strange as it may seem to those who knew him in California, and his awkward, uncouth ways, it was a serious love affair, as related to me in Missouri, 1848. Mrs Green, who employed Marshall in Missouri, had a handsome birth, intelligent daughter, Miss Tennessee with whom Marshall was desperately smitten. She did not reciprocate, but subsequently married another man of the same name from New York, a young doctor, genteel and polished. James Marshall became disgusted with the world at large and women in particular. He determined to place himself outside of the world of civilized women, and the next spring left for Pacific Coast. That is what took him there."

"Mr Denver is mistaken as to regards to the given name Miss Green. It was Missouri not Tennessee. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Green, who operated the historic old GREEN HOUSE in Platte City. This hotel was the home of Senator David R. Atchison, while he lived in Platte city. He was staying there at the time that the city of Atchinson was founded and name in his honor, and during his operations as a leader in the pro-slavery movement at the time of the Missouri-Kansas border war. This pioneer hostelry was the rendezvous of democratic politicians and professional and literary men of that day.

�James Wilson Marshall was born on October 8, 1810 in Round Mountain, New Jersey. His father, Phillip Marshall was a wagon-maker and James first learned the trade from him as a youngster in his teens. James had a falling out with his father and left home to work in a variety of jobs including a sawmill and lumber company. In 1837 he owned a small farm in Western Missouri

He left New Jersey at age twenty-four (after the death of his father) and headed west. He settled in after the Platte Purchase, and began farming along the Missouri River . It was there that he contracted malaria a common affliction in the area. On the advice of his doctor, Marshall left Missouri in the hopes of improving his health. He joined an emigrant train heading west and arrived in Oregon's Willamette Valley in the spring of 1845. He left Oregon in June 1845 and headed south, eventually reaching Sutter's Fort California in mid-July. His great-grandfather had served as a signer of the Declaration of Independence

Although he never struck it rich, James Marshall is linked forever to the story of the California gold rush as the man who set the whole world heading westward with his discovery of gold along the American River in northern California.

Marshall was born in 1810 in New Jersey and took up his father's trade as a skilled carpenter and wheelwright. At age eighteen he decided to head west, settling as a farmer near Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, after briefly residing in Indiana and Illinois. After several unhealthy and unsuccessful years of famine, Marshall decided in 1844 to join a wagon train headed to California. In July of 1845, Marshall arrived at the Sacramento River settlement run by John Sutter , who quickly gave him employment as a carpenter. Marshall's economic prospects brightened considerably, and he soon owned livestock and several hundred acres of land in the Sacramento Valley. He was also among the up-and-coming settlers who joined forces with John C. Fremont early in 1846 to stage the Bear Flag Revolt, a premature bid to seize control of California that was snuffed out when American troops arrived to occupy the territory at the start of the Mexican-American war.

Marshall served in Fremont's California Battalion, the remnant of the revolt, for the next year, when he returned to the Sacramento Valley to find that his cattle had been stolen. Forced by financial necessity to sell his ranch, Marshall formed a partnership with John Sutter to construct a sawmill along the American River, agreeing to operate the mill in return for a portion of the lumber. On January 24, 1848, while checking to see that the tailrace of the mill had been flushed clean of silt and debris, Marshall looked down through the clear water and saw gold.

Ironically, the subsequent gold rush actually harmed the man who had begun it. Marshall was unsuccessful in securing legal or practical recognition of his own claims in the gold fields, and his sawmill quickly failed when all able-bodied men in the area turned all their efforts to the search for gold. Marshall bitterly resented his misfortune, but he was helpless to change a course of events he had himself set in motion. Through the rest of his life, he drifted from place to place in California, eventually settling in a Spartan homesteader's cabin where he raised a small subsistence garden. "Miss Missouri Green, who spurned the attentions of James Marshall, eventually married Dr. Frederick Marshall, who was not related to the man who was to become, the discoverer of gold in California. This Doctor Marshall appears to have been somewhat of gold discover himself, however, for he became very wealthy in Platte County. On the other hand, the California gold discoverer died poor.

Doctor Marshall was a New Yorker by birth and came to Platte County with the opening of the Platte Purchase in 1837. He began his medical practice at the old town of Martinville, at the "Falls of the Platte", opposite to Ft. Leavenworth, his office having been a log cabin 10 feet square. He did not realize enough from his practice at first to meet his publications and found it necessary to go out on the prairie and work in the hay fields in order to make up the deficiency. But he became one the most successful and distinguished physicians in Platte County. He was just the opposite in appearance and manners from his rival in love, James Marshall. Paxton, the Platte historian, thus describes him "Handsome in person and cordial in his manners, he won the hearts of every household he entered. A pleasant smile upon his face invited confidence and inspired friendship" Dr. Marshall was treasurer of Platte County for many years. He died in 1861, and later is widow married Judge E. H. Norton, one of Platte County's most distinguished jurists, who became a Supreme Court Judge of Missouri and a member of Congress. William Jewell College conferred on him the degree of L.L.D.

But for the aforementioned disappointment in love, James W. Marshall might have become a permanent resident of Platte County, and the great gold rush in California might have a different origin. His was born at Marshall's corner, New Jersey, October 10, 1810. His father was a man of note in church and state. As a Young man James had a tendency to see visions and this is thought to account for his alleged belief in spiritualism."

"Soon after his death of his father in 30's, he (James) came to Ft Leavenworth intending to take a claim in the newly opened Platte Purchase. He settled in Platte County, and there, between carpenter work, farming and trading, he was fairly prosperous until seized with the ague which was then prevalent in the new country, and which, to use his own words "reduced his to a shadow." Added to this were the pangs of "unrequited love," and driven to discouragement and melancholy, he decided to go to the far west. He drifted to Oregon and from there to California in the 40's. He found employment with CAPTAIN SUTTER at Sutter's Fort. For several months he made plows and spinning wheels and was quite handy about the place. He enlisted in the Bear Flag and also in the Mexican War in 1847, serving through the latter in California. He received his discharge in 1847, and resumed worth for Captain Sutter. Shortly afterward, while superintending the erection of a saw mill at Coloma, he made the discovery that started the entire civilized world and precipitated the greatest gold rush in history. In 1869/70 he made tow lecture tours. "MARSHALL," says one of his biographers, "Had all the distinctive qualities of the frontiersmen, warrior, explorer and discoverer and in some sense, their fragilities as well." He died August 19, 1885 at the age of almost 75 years. A fine monument marks his last resting place at Coloma, among scenes of his California labors and his famous discovery.

Elisha Green, the father of the beautiful girl who unintentionally broke the heart of the future California Argonaut, was stalwart Tennessean who came to Platte County, in 1837. He brought a wigwam from the Pottawatomie Indian, in the river bottom, near Farley and settled there. In 1844, the year of the great flood in the Missouri river, he moved to Platte City and erected what became the town's most famous hostelry-- the Green House, Already mentioned. He was on the most enterprising of Platte County's early citizens, and made many valuable improvements. He was building a fine steam mill at Platte City when overtook by death in 1855. It was never completed. Judge Paxton, in his Annals' says of his: "He was the life to the town-- ever ready with a good story or a practical joke. (I wonder if was family trace, for my Green love practical jokes and good story too) His surviving friends often speak of his hospitality, enterprise and humor." Mrs Green was a Virginian. "She was a large, brisk, independent, and kind-hearted woman." She died in 1875. The daughter, Missouri, who figures so promently in this narrative, is thus spoken of by the Platte historian: " Missouri A. Green, early life was handsome, spirited and independent. She labored effectively in every good cause was ever generous and kind to the poor, and zealous for the Church" Atkinson Globe

Dr. and Mrs Marshall's 1841 Honeymoon Trunks Donated to Museum (the Ben Ferrell Museum in Platte City, Platte County, Missouri)

Celcelia D. Fitch nee Miller and Mary Marshall Pegues nee Miller have donated a small hand tooled leather hat trunk and large had tooled leather steamer trunk to the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum, that was used by their great-grandparents, Frederick Marshall and his new bride Missouri Green Marshall, on their honeymoon in 1841. Mrs Fitch believes the honeymoon trip was a river cruise up the Mississippi River into Minnesota Territory. The lovely hat box contains a hat and shawl and number of doll clothes. The steamer trunk is empty and has sometimes during the years been lined with old newspapers.

Dr Marshall was native of New York and came to Platte, Mo in 1837. He died in 1861. His widow Missouri Green Marshall later married JUDGE ELIJAH HISE NORTON. She died in 1919 in her nineties.

The sale of public lands according to the provisions of the Act of Congress of April 24,1820, signed by President Polk, was the forerunner of the purchase of a tract of land by ELISHA GREEN., dated May 1.1846. In this sixty acre tract, a cemetery was marked aside for a burial ground which was never to be sold or traded.

Part of the Will of ELISHA GREEN dated March 28, 1854, read as follows:

" It is my will that the piece of ground enclosed with rock for burying ground on my land shall always remain as it is, and be used for a family burying ground. and after my death it is my will and I hereby declare that said enclosed piece of land shall be always reserved from sale and shall not pass by and deed of conveyance made by any or all my heirs or executors or administrators, and all and every such sale shall be null and void. signed ELISHA GREEN.

"Knopf Farm

Elisha Green received a patent from the United States in March 1846 for the Knopf Farm. Then a son Nicholas R Green and his wife e Matilda, sold it to Charles Knopf and Lewis Spinner in January 1865. It seems as though they made separate deeds in 1868 and 1872

In 1896, the estate of Charles Knopf and in 1917 the estate of Sophia Knopf and in Sept Albert Knopf bought it. He died in Dec 1931. That would make it the Knopf name 87 years. Presented by Marie Kisker, 1952(deceased" Found in the book " LOOKING BAQCK IN LEE TOWNSHIP, PLATTE COUNTY, MISSOURI" by Mrs. Leo L Dowling.

MRS TIP GREEN, wife of Tip Green who was killed by the bushwhackers, married Calvin Stokes. Children of this marriage were J.A. STOKES, JOSEPHINE, DANIEL, SUSAN,WYATT. Note from Janet: She must have died 1894. Her son John was there in after 1880 until 1899. He was said to be there when his mother died.

Mrs Susannah Green m'd 1847 to Isaac Peirson. The 1850 Census has her living with him. This mistake here is that Susannah Green should be Susan Green.

I know this not think this my John Green wife Susannah Linebaugh. Susannah was call Susannah or Ann never Susan. In the 1840 Census there was Benjamin Green who could have been Susan Green Husband. By 1847 Susan Green is list on the Tax list alone. My John Green is listed to meaning he was still living.
